The victorious Indian women with the trophy after defeating West Indies in the final ODI.

Kycia Knight’s (55 runs, 94b, 5x4) ill-timed reverse sweep proved detrimental both for her and her team as India beat West Indies by 15 runs in the final ODI at Mulapadu cricket playfield here on Wednesday.

With just 27 runs required from 20 balls, Kycia’s risky stroke triggered a slump. Four wickets fell in the gap of 11 runs. Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari (four for 34) was the pick of India bowlers who with her nicely tossed up deliveries struck four crucial blows. The Indian eves fielded brilliantly and executed three runs outs.

Earlier India, put into bat, made 199 for six in the allotted 50 overs. The highlight of the day was a stroke-filled 71 (79b, 10x4) by Veda Krishnamurthy, who, along with debutant D. P. Vaidya, stitched a 57-run partnership for the fifth-wicket.

Veda looked for the scoring opportunities right from the word go and seldom hesitated to meet the spinners by coming down the wicket. She took advantage of the reprieve offered by Anisa Mohammad, who dropped a sharp chance at short covers.

Vaidya, who was dropped by Stefaine Taylor, regained her rhythm quickly to play a couple of attractive strokes to help her team progress.

India will meet West Indies in a three-match T20 series which begins from Friday at the same venue.
