India's opener Smriti Mandhana scored 44 runs of 62 balls to help the team chase down West Indies' total of 153.

Two quick-fire knocks by skipper Mithali Raj (45 runs, 51b, 60m, 6x4, 1x6), opener Smriti Mandhana (44 runs, 62b, 107m, 6x4, 1x6) and a gritty 63-run partnership for the second wicket between Smriti and Deepti helped India post a five-wicket win against West Indies eves thus clinching the three-match series at Mulapadu cricket field here on Sunday.

Chasing 153, India reached the target with 12 overs to spare.

India was off to flying start with Smriti accumulating 16 runs in the very first over that included a huge six of Smartt’s second delivery.

After the bizarre dismissal of Thirush Kamini, who was declared out for obstructing the field, India saw stitching up a fruitful partnership between Smriti and Deepti.

Some sloppy fielding by Shaquana and Tremayne made the India’s march towards the target easier as they dropped not-so-difficult chances.

Mithali, who hoisted the team’s 150 with a rasping boundary, went for a grandiose stroke only to be caught by Hayley Matthews off Shakera in the 36.2 overs.

Deandera dazzles

Earlier, West Indies, thanks to an attractive 63 by Deandra Dottin (101b, 114m, 6x4, 1x6) and her 70-run fifth wicket partnership with Merissa Aguilliera, registered a fighting 153 for seven in the allotted 50 overs.

The visitor was off to a disastrous start losing its openers Hayley Matthews and Shaquana Quintyne in the back-to-back overs to Indian pacers.

Jhulan drew the first the blood strapping Hayley in front in the fifth over and in the very next over Shikha Pandey forced Shaquana to play across. Windies, at one stage were tottering 58 for 4 in 25 overs.

Both Dottin and Merissa showed immense amount of maturity and played some fluent strokes on both sides of the wickets to take their team to safety.

A couple of dropped catches by Smriti Mandana and Harmanpreet Kaur emboldened them to unleash risky shots. However leg spinners Ekta Bisht and Rajeswari bowled tidy spells to check the menacingly marching Windies.

India will meet West Indira in the third match of the series on November 16.
