Hello and welcome to Sportstar's highlights of the second ODI between India Women and South Africa Women at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

A response of equal magnitude if not greater from India as it annihilates South Africa in the second ODI in some grandeur. Clinical from the start were Mithali Raj's girls as they packed up their tormentors from the last ODI - SA opener Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt cheaply back to the dressing room early. Led by the evergreen Jhulan Goswami's sensational 4/42 and comeback girl Mansi Joshi's crucial 2/23, India dealt a massive jolt for Sune Luus and Co. as the Proteas found themselves cleaned up for 157 on a Lucknow surface conducive to some exquisite strokeplay.
And the Indians did just that in its manic chase. Led by the swashbuckling Smriti Mandhana who got off to a fiesty start with two sixes, India rallied to the finish line with fine pace. Even as fellow opener Jemimah Rodrigues failed to make merry on a decent batting track, Mandhana paired up with Punam Raut to set up the chase beautifully. Raut took her own sweet time before settling while Mandhana took on the South African pace attack with some rigour - blazing 10 boundaries and three sixes on her way to a glorious 80* off just 64 deliveries. Raut finishes on 62* off 89 while Mandhana remained the star of the chase as she also etched her name as India's most prolific ODI opener.
The series is set up for a stellar finish as India levelled in style with a terrific response. All eyes now on Friday's third encounter for the Proteas will now feel the heat heading into the fixture. Join us then for all the action!
Player of the match Jhulan Goswami has her say: "It was pretty challenging because I was coming back after a year, and playing a competitive side like South Africa. I was just trying to hit the ball on the right areas. I always share my mantra with all my teammates. Monica the other day and Mansi today bowled very well. The World Cup is going to happen next year. It's important for me to be fit and to play maximum number of matches." Indian captain Mithali Raj speaks after her side's thumping win: "I think it started from winning the toss, that's where things went right. Credit to Mansi [Joshi] who bowled well with Jhulan [Goswami] and bowled well. There was a good start. The spinners took their time, and Harman's wicket of the left-hander [Lara Goodall] was an important one. Our fielding was also good. We sat down and analysed what was needed. The wicket was quite good. Today I had feedback from all over the ground, and that helps the team as a unit when we are on the field." SA skipper Sune Luus speaks after the nine-wicket loss: "Things were opposite from the first game. The teams swapped around performances. The batters didn't apply ourselves well enough. It comes down to shot selection and execution. We're going to train a little harder and see where we can improve. The wicket was such that 210-220 would have been a defendable total. India 151/1 after 28 overs: India brings up 150! Mlaba is invited into the attack with another delectable late cut from Raut and India is now 7 runs away from levelling the series. India 143/1 after 27 overs: Raut scoops past the keeper and bring up her fifty! Took some time but boy, she has switched gears in style! Raut puts de Klerk into some misery as flicks the last ball off the over through mid-wicket for another boundary. India closes in on a thumping win here!
India 134/1 after 26 overs: Raut closes in on her fifty. After a staggeringly slow star, Raut has stepped into the race with an array of beautiful boundaries.
India 128/1 after 25 overs: Mandhana is mauling the Proteas attack! Dealing in a sizeable amount of boundaries as Mandhana and Raut bring up their 100-run partnership. This is has been a thumping reply from India after being at the opposite end of such an attack in the first ODI. India 116/1 after 23 overs: India is motoring through! A poor over from Luus with a couple of loopy balls, one that even ends up as a no-ball. Mandhana also smashes the final ball of the over, a loose full-toss down the ground for yet another boundary.
100 up for India in 21 overs, needs 58 runs in 29 overs to win!
India 95/1 after 20 overs: Fifty for Mandhana off 46 balls! Reaches the feat as he punishes a short ball off Ismail with a crunching swivel pull and tops it off with a cut to the point boundary off the next ball. India on course to finish this chase off in quick time.
India 77/1 after 18 overs: A Mandhana master-class is on display at Lucknow! After a couple of delightful late cuts off Luus in the previous over, the elegant southpaw aces a check-drive through the cover region as India is motoring through the chase on the back of her run-a-ball knock.

India 63/1 after 15 overs: Raut takes on Mlaba! Two boundaries off the spinner to break the shackles and clearly the plan is to unsettle Mlaba here. Raut dishes a loose full-toss from Mlaba with a flick through midwicket and follows it with a crunch drive through mid-off!
India 50/1 after 14 overs: India brings up its fifty. Mandhana has accelerated well to put India on par with the socring while Raut has batted herself into a shell. The approach would work as long as the frustration does not creep into her batting.
India 48/1 after 12 overs: Mandhana greets Mlaba with a six! Slow and loopy from the left-armer and Mandhana does not let it go - swings it hard and slashes one down the ground over the boundary for a glorious maximum!

India 40/1 after 11 overs: Mandhana takes the aerial route. Khaka followed a tight length throughout the over before a blip off the final ball provided room for Mandhana to swing her arms. The left-hander completed a full arc as she sends one down the ground, nearly hitting the boundary on the full.
India 35/1 after 10 overs: And right on cure, there's the classical drive through the covers from Mandhana. Beats the fielder by a millimeter to the fence and Mandhana follows it up with a flick to deep midwicket. India 28/1 after 9 overs: Ayabonga Khaka has got off to a fine spell and has forced the Indian batters to a shell. Not a shade of aggression from Mandhana since her first two strikes while Raut continues lay off a full-bloodied defense. The Proteas pacers have settled in well by attacking the stumps.
India 25/1 after 6 overs: Maiden over for Kapp. A couple of fine deliveries outside the off-stump that probes into Poonam Raut's approach. Raut, however, has walked into a shell for the rest of the over as she presents a dead bat to a couple of short deliveries. This approach has recently put India into a shell after the top-order batters failed to rotate strike at regular intervals.
India 25/1 after 5 overs: Ismail to Jemimah. OUT! And the loose short ball brings some luck for Ismail. Poor batting from Jemimah as that ball had a boundary written all over it. IND 21/0 after 3 overs: Delectable punch from Jemimah down the ground. Shabnim keeps it short once again and pays the price for it as Jemimah produces a solid drive to pick up the momentum for her innings. Did not have a fine outing last time and the youngster will be itching to seal this chase here for India.
IND 16/0 after 2 overs: Marizanne Kapp is on the money from the start. She prefers to attack the stumps with a fuller length unlike Ismail who has surprisingly strayed short on this seaming pitch.
IND 13/0 after 1 over: Mandhana off to a flier! Gets the strike from Rodrigues for the last two balls and storms them both for cracking pulls over the mid-wicket fence for six!

Summary: It's been a slow morning in patches in Lucknow but what a turnaround from the Indian bowling lineup! After looking hapless before the might of the Lee-Wolvaardt duo, Mithali Raj's girls came back strong in the second ODI bowling out SA for 157. Lara Goodall top scored with 49. The Proteas are right to be disappointed with their show today considering they crumbled after the fifth wicket fell. Special word of appreciation here for the two Indian veteran - Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj. At the start of day's play, it seemed a little odd to choose to bowl first on a good batting track that was cracking up and set to slow down. The bowlers kept up their end of the bargain with a neat fielding effort to complement it. Jhulan, after the frustrations in the first ODI, was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets to her name. Not to forget the exceptional effort by Mansi Joshi with the ball up-front as well. The right-arm pacer who replaced Monica Patel, came in with a sensational opening spell and a spurt of outswinging deliveries to trouble the SA openers. Mansi snapped Wolvaardt early and returned much later in the middle overs to snap the skipper, Sune Luus who looked set to take South Africa to a comfortable position. All that India needs to do now is to ensure it keeps its wickets and bats sensibly, with the pitch favouring seam in Lucknow today.

Finds the inside-edge off de Klerk first to the stumps and follows it up with a perfect slower-ball to clean up the new batter Shabnim Ismail's stumps. Unlucky for India after Goswami cramped Chetty to hit the ball straight to Mandhana on the on-side. The umpires refer upstairs for the no-ball review and the replays suggest that Goswami has bowled a no-ball.
SA 130/6 after 34 overs: Kaur to Goodall. OUT! A wicket first ball for Harmanpreet! Goodall falls short of a well-deserved half-century as she is cleaned up by Kaur. Kaur balls a regulation fuller ball that manages to sneak past Goodall's defense to rattle the stumps. India stomps further into the Proteas and Kaur bowls a wicket-maiden to warm up! SA 130/5 after 33 overs: India has well gained the foothold at the moment as Mithali continues to mix up her bowlers well. Goswami and Poonam have carved out a few tight overs and SA is reeling in its bid to eye a 200-plus total.
SA 119/5 after 30 overs: Goswami to Kapp. OUT! India strikes right after the drinks break! Kapp attempts a flick straightaway after resumption. The shot, not a bad idea against Goswami straighter length but Kapp fails to time it well and induces an edge. The ball sails straight to Deepti Sharma at mid-wicket and India has five. SA 113/4 after 29 overs: And SA goes past 100 after some tussle. Goodall continues to build after an excellent display against spin. The hard-hitting Kapp has joined her while Poonam Yadav's rough patch with the ball continues.
SA 99/4 afte 26 overs: Rajeshwari to Mignon du Preez. OUT! An excellent catch at cover by Deepti Sharma! The lead batter of the SA lineup is back to the hut as Rajeshwari Gayakwad lures a false shot from Mignon. Good flight on the delivery outside the off-stump and Mignon attempts to drive it through covers. She fails to reach the ball and ends up hitting it through the air. Deepti Sharma intercepts it in quick time and completes a safe catch as India strikes the fourth wicket. Mignon du Preez c Sharma b Gayakwad 11 (20b 1x4)
SA 95/3 after 25 overs: Halfway through and India has done a commendablel job to return well against Proteas here. The spinners have been dealt fairly well but SA batters still finding it difficult to pierce the gaps.
SA 87/3 after 23 overs: Mignon starts in some style. Mansi makes a rare blip in line as she offers a wide delivery right in Mignon's arc and she cashes in with an excellent boundary.
SA 80/3 after 21 overs: OUT! Mansi strikes again! And it's the SA skipper that has to walk back! A cracking outswinger provokes a loose stroke from Luus whose edge carries straight to Sushma Verma behind the stumps. Sensational piece of bowling from the young pacer. SA 76/2 after 19 overs: Fine return from Mansi. Goodall manages just a sole run of the over. A hint of shape off the seam for Mansi here and it still manages to trouble the batters.

SA 75/2 after 18 overs: 50-run stand for Luus and Goodall! This has been a tremendous recovery from the Proteas and Poonam Yadav has conceded 10 runs off her first over. Poor start from Poonam as she loops in two loose deliveries with Luus cracking them to the boundary.
SA 65/2 after 17 overs: Rajeshwari continues to push in the loopy deliveries and both Luus and Goodall are happy to employ the sweep to either side of the wicket. Skipper Mithali have placed the fielders for that particular shot and the South Africa has to deal with singles at the moment.
SA 56/2 after 15 overs: Goodall lunges down and smashes Rajeshwari for a cracking boundary down the ground. South Africa is picking up the pace and the left-handed Goodall continues to attempt her sweeps of varying kinds against the spinners, yet to ace one to the boundary though!
SA 51/2 after 14 overs: 50 up for South Africa! Luus and Goodall have recovered well to collect the runs in slowly after India struck early by removing the openers. The batters have played with a positive mindset against the spinners even as the runs have been hard to come by. SA 49/2 after 13 overs: A couple of quiet overs chipped in by Deepti and Rajeshwari as Luus and Goodall is finding it difficult to pierce the gaps.

SA 30/2 after 8 overs: Another boundary for Luus as Mansi errs with the length. Over-pitched and Luus aces the drive through the covers. She has copped a fine spell from the pacers but has latched onto any loose ball with precision.
SA 25/2 after 7 overs: Crisp from Goswami! Beats the edge off Luus and nearly gets the third wicket for India. Luus caught in two minds as she plays down the wrong line, expecting the seaming-in delivery. Goswami keeps it full and forces the ball to hold its line to trouble the SA captain.
SA 23/2 after 6 overs: Mansi to Wolvaardt. OUT! India strikes again! Excellent spell of bowling from Mansi and there she has her reward as she packs the menacing Wolvaardt cheaply. The out-swinger has done its bit as Mansi keeps it outside the off-stump line and Wolvaardt attempts a faint nudge with her feet nowhere near the line of the ball. SA 10/1 after 3 overs: Goswami continues to attack the stumps. A shade of uneven bounce with the fuller deliveries to Wolvaardt keeping a tad low onto her feet. SA 9/1 after 2 overs: Fine start from Mansi Joshi! Gets some away swing right away to trouble Wolvaardt. Mansi beats the bat in succession and SA put under the pump first up here.

Goswami began her over by cramping Lee and a rare blip off the fourth ball provided Lee the room to cut one past point for four. Goswami was quick to make amends in her length as she brought one with precision off the final ball to hit Lee's pads. The Indians go for a loud shout and the umpire raises his finger straight away! 7.30AM: As we witnessed India slump to a heavy defeat in the first-match, certain chinks in the armour were heavily exposed. India failed to get past 200 - sighting a lack of firepower in its batting order while the bowlers failed to make early inroads.
Here's what the India vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur had to say about the loss: "We didn't get any international cricket for a year. Apart from three IPL games we didn't get much time to work as a unit. As a team you need to spend time and get ready for any series. In the past few years, we had built a rhythm but we will need time to create that rhythm and next game we will try to do that as a unit." 1st ODI - review
Mithali Raj and her girls were inflicted a harrowing eight-wicket defeat by a solid Proteas lineup led by Sune Luus. The Proteas sent India into bat first and snapped the Indian top-order cheaply. With Shabnim Ismail, Marizanne Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka setting up a stern test up-front, the Indian middle-order failed to up the scoring rate even as skipper Mithali Raj (50 off 85 balls) and her deputy, Harmanpreet Kaur (40 off 41 balls) aimed for a resurgence. Skipper Luus and Nonkululeko Mlaba held the batters with a fine spell of spin-bowling to further the axe on India who eventually finished at 177/9 in 50 overs.
A thumping reply from the visitor was in the offing as openers Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt stitched a massive 169-run partnership to trump the Indian bowlers. South Africa nailed the chase in 40 overs and handed an agonising defeat for India on its return after 364 days.
