Rohit Sharma has fondest memories of Ajit Wadekar, who passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday .
“I was fortunate to have interacted with Wadekar Sir when I was playing for Mumbai. He was watching a Ranji Trophy match. It was in 2013-14 (or 2015). He advised me a few things and told me what he thought of me. Those were quite useful,” Rohit said on the sidelines of a promotional event.
After the day’s play, Wadekar gave him a tip or two about how to equip himself in the long run.
“I met him at the BCCI awards [ceremonies] on a number of occasions. He asked me to make changes [in batting], that helped,” Rohit added.
He also paid tribute to Wadekar’s legacy in Indian cricket. “I have not seen him play but I have heard so many things about him from my seniors and they only have good things to say about him. For Mumbai and Indian cricket, he has created such a legacy that someone like me can look forward to,” Rohit said.
