KANE PUTS ENGLAND IN THE LEAD

Captain Harry Kane gave England the lead in the first minute of added time after a mishit shot from Eberechi Eze was headed into the middle of the goal by Ivan Toney. Kane positioned himself well to set himself up with a free header to make it 2-1.

BELLINGHAM BICYCLE KICK IN ADDED TIME

A long throw-in came in from Kyle Walker which bounced off the players in the box and fell to Jude Bellingham who rose up in the air to perform a bicycle kick.

FODEN’S EQUALISER RULED OUT

Four minutes into the second half, Phil Foden directed the ball into an empty net after an assist from left-back Kieran Trippier. However, VAR checks ruled the goal out for offside after confirming that Foden was not behind the ball when Trippier passed him the ball.

NO SHOT ON TARGET FOR ENGLAND IN THE FIRST HALF

England has failed to record a shot on target in the first half of a knockout stage game at a major tournament since the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal versus Argentina.

SLOVAKIA’S IVAN SCHRANZ BECOME JOINT TOP SCORER

Ivan Schranz scored his third goal of the Euro 2024 and Slovakia’s opener, becoming the joint-highest top scorer of the tournament with Jamal Musiala and Geroges Mikautadze.

He’s the first ever Slovakian player to score a knockout round goal at the European Championships.

HARRY KANE MAKES HISTORY

England captain Harry Kane became the English player with the most competitive appearances for the national after starting in its Euro 2024 round of 16 clash against Slovakia.

KOBBIE MAINOO STARTS

Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo is named in the starting 11 for the first time in the tournament. He replaces Trent Alexander Arnold and Conor Gallagher in midfield.

He is also the third-youngest player to start a knockout stage game for England at a major tournament (World Cup/EUROs), after Michael Owen v Argentina in 1998 (18y 198d) and Wayne Rooney v Portugal in 2004 (18y 244d).
