After a cagey opening quarter, Harry Kane dragged a shot wide in the 19th minute as England pressed forward more often. But England broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when Harry Maguire rose above his marker to send a powerful header into the back of the net from a corner kick.
England was clearly the better side of the first half, with Raheem Sterling's movement causing the Swedish defence all kinds of problems. The Manchester City man came close twice in the final minutes of the half, but missed was unable to put the finishing touch. Sweden, on the other hand, saw very less of the ball and was unable to register a single shot on target.
