Rose has Masters determination after play-off defeat

After missing out in a play-off at Augusta, Justin Rose is determined to one day win the Masters.

Justin Rose remains confident of one day donning a green jacket following his play-off loss to Sergio Garcia at the Masters.

A gripping tussle between Rose and Garcia on Sunday saw both men shoot 69 for their final round and finish nine-under in regulation.

But it was Garcia, so often golf's nearly man, who finally ended his major drought in the play-off. 

The Spaniard was handed two putts to win after Rose was unable to recover from pushing his tee shot at the first extra hole into the trees, and duly sank a 12-footer to clinch an emotional victory on what would have been the 60th birthday of the late Seve Ballesteros.

For Rose defeat saw him miss the chance to add to the U.S. Open title he won at Merion in 2013.

But the Olympic champion sees no reason why he cannot challenge for a green jacket again and is already turning his focus to the next three majors, with the U.S. Open at Erin Hills just over two months away.

"It's going to sting for sure.  But you know, I really feel like this is a tournament that I can still go on to win," Rose told a media conference. 

"I'd like to win three or four green jackets, but one would be enough. I just want to win here. So I have plenty more looks, and I feel good about it happening. So I look forward.

"For me, golf is about April to September. That's where the big tournaments are. That's where the tournaments that change your career are. So this is the first one of four. I feel motivated for the summer, and I will be moving on and setting goals very quickly after this."

For Garcia, who had previously finished in the top five at majors 12 times without winning, Rose feels the success can continue in 2017.

"I think he's going to have a happy summer. I think we've always known that Sergio is kind of an emotional on and off the golf course kind of guy and when it's all clicking, he's one of the best in the world," Rose added. 

"I think that it is going to set up just a really, really happy and wonderful year for him. And golf-wise that could be anything. He could go on and win a couple more times this year for sure.

"Once you have one out of the way, the questions become easier. For him, he has to face that every single time he got in contention. Now he doesn't have to.

"So it does begin to get easier. Hopefully he can start to kick up the success rate a little bit more."
