Jamshedpur FC's Gourav Mukhi has been the talk of the Indian footballing world over the last two days. The striker had scored a screamer against Bengaluru FC on Sunday, but what led to his spot in the limelight is age.

The Indian Super League website says Mukhi is all of 16 years, which makes him the youngest player to score in the ISL. However, reports in the past have suggested that he was involved in an age-fraud incident in the U-15 level back in 2015.

With confusion prevailing over his actual age, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) released a statement addressing the same on Tuesday.

"Jamshedpur FC player Gourav Mukhi who had earlier given a declaration that his DOB was 04/05/1999 has now submitted documents to the CRS system referring that his DOB is 04/05/2002.

The Centralised Registration System (CRS) which registers in-detailed information of every single player for AIFF was not implemented for the National Championships and the State Associations in 2015, but later. The discrepancy in the DOBs will be referred to the relevant committee for further appropriate action," the statement read.
