Much has been made of the vast amount of money Manchester City have spent since they were taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, but it is one of their less costly signings Vincent Kompany who has put up a good show.
Vincent Kompany has always been a big favourite with Manchester City fans but his winning goal against Manchester United recently has taken his popularity to a whole new level. The City skipper's towering header gave his side a vital victory over arch-rival United.

As well as scoring the winning goal against the champions, the Belgium centre-back collected the man-of-the-match award following another commanding display at the heart of the City back four.
Kompany cost a fee believed to be in the region of GBP6 million when he was signed from Anderlecht in the summer of 2008 and he has arguably been their best signing since they started splashing the cash.
“Vincent is one of the outstanding talents in Europe,” said then City boss Mark Hughes after securing Kompany's services. “He understands the ambition of the club. He understands where we want to take the club.”
Kompany was sold by City's ambition and almost four years on, the vision of City's wealthy owners to win major honours and make City a force to be reckoned with is closer than ever to coming to fruition.
Kompany could not contain his delight after his winner against United and the inspirational 26-year-old is determined to finish off the job.
He said: “I'm absolutely buzzing. It's far from over, but just to give our fans two wins over Manchester United this season.... We have to finish it off and I hope we can show it.”
While the likes of Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, David Silva and Yaya Toure receive more column space, Kompany is one of the outstanding defenders in the EPL and City are not the same side without him.
Kompany was signed by Hughes as a defender who could also play as a holding midfielder and he has been a mainstay at the heart of City's back four ever since.
Strong in the air, with great vision and the ability to read the game superbly, Kompany is the complete defender and he looks set to stay at the club for years to come.
“We're building for the future,' he said following the victory over United.
“To get this result is a bonus, we wanted it so bad and it is what football is all about. The chairman came to visit us today and he outlined what he wants for the club. It is all about the dreams we have when we're children and that's what football is all about.”
Kompany's dreams look set to become reality and City look certain to be a force both domestically and in Europe in the coming years — and their inspirational captain will play an integral role in their quest for honours.
