All of 19, Hima Das has been scorching the track with one record after another. And India’s latest sprint sensation was named the Sportswoman of the Year (Track and Field) at the Sportstar Aces Awards, supported by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, in association with MRF.

“The year 2018 has been a really good one for me with success at the Asian Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games. I will try to improve my performances this year as well,” Hima said.

“I thank Sportstar for this award and I hope to do even better,” the youngster, who hails from Assam, added.

Back from training overseas, Hima at the moment is focusing on her Class 12 exams under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council.

It has been an amazing transformation for her. From being the reigning world junior champion in 400m to being a top quarter-miler has been quite phenomenal. This remains special considering that she has already run sub-51 seconds!

The sprinter kept improving her timing, culminating in a national record time of 50.79 seconds and won silver at the Asian Games.

With the Olympics lined up next year, Hima knows she has a long way to go, but the youngster appears confident of raising the bar this season.

The season starts from March 15 with the Federation Cup National Championships in Patiala. It will also be a selection trial for the Asian Championships, which will be held from April 21. With her examinations set to get over before the Federation Cup, the ‘Dhing Express’ — as she is fondly called by her friends — is ready to set the track on fire!
