S D Prajwal Dev and Adil Kalyanpur win the men’s doubles gold for Karnataka with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Dhruv Hirapa and Madhwin Kamath of Gujarat in the final. In the women’s doubles final, Maharashtra’s Rutuja Bhosale and Vaishnavi Adkar beat Karntaka’s Sharmadaa Baluu and Soha Sadiq 6-4, 6-4.
- Men’s javelin throw gold has been clinched by DP Manu of Services with a best throw of 80.71m. UP’s Rohit Yadav (79.78m) takes silver while Delhi’s Abhishek Drall (79.01m) wins bronze.
- UP’s Annu Rani won the women’s javelin throw gold with a best effort of 54.56m. Silver went to Andhra Pradesh’s Rashmi Shetty (53.95m) and bronze was won by Haryana’s Shilpa Rani (51.93m).
- Haryana comfortably takes the 4x400m mixed relay gold with a timing of 3:14.30s. Karnataka wins silver with the bronze going to Delhi.
- Final event of the day - 4x400m mixed relay - will begin in a few minutes while men’s javelin is still going on.
- Tamil Nadu’s Vithya Ramraj sets a new National Games record of 56.58s to win the women’s 400m hurdles gold. Kerala’s Arathi R (58.57s) takes the silver while bronze goes to Karnataka’s Sinchal (58.74s).
- Men’s 400m hurdles is underway. Santosh Kumar T of Services wins the gold medal with a timing of 49.49s, a new National Games record. Silver goes to MP Jabir of Services (50.57s) while K. Sathish of Tamil Nadu (50.70s) takes the bronze.
- Next event is women’s 3000m steeplechase. UP’s Parul Chaudhary edges ahead of Haryana’s Priti Lamba in the final lap to clinch the gold medal! After gold in the 5000m, here comes another for Parul with a timing of 9:56.65s. Silver goes to Komal Jagadale of Maharashtra while Priti Lamba took bronze.
- Shankar Lal Swami (8:43.05s) survives a late charge from fellow Services athlete Balkishan (8:43.14s) to clinch gold in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase. Bronze goes to Prince Raj Mishra (8:47.15s) of Sikkim. Shankar also set a new Games record, breaking the previous mark of 8:48.68s set by Jaiveer Singh in Ranchi in 2011.
- Men’s 3000m Steeplechase is underway. National Record holder Avinash Sable’s name was there in the start list but he is not participating.
- Assam’s Amlan Borgohain wins the men’s 200m gold with a timing of 20.55s, a new Games Record. Karnataka’s Abhin Devadiga takes silver while bronze medal goes to Muhammad Ajmal of Services.
- Archana Suseendran wins women’s 200m gold with a time of 23.06! Hima Das of Assam gets silver.
- Chanda KM of Delhi wins gold in women’s 800m clocking 2:01.58 and breaks National Games record set by Tintu Luka.
- Mohammed Afsal of Services wins men’s 800m gold with a 1:46.30 min run.
- Jyothi Yarraji of Andhra Pradesh clearly dominates the field and wins gold with 12.79, but it is not a National Recordbecause of 2.5m/s wind assisted. Record would be counted onlyuntil 2 m/s.
- Amlan Borgohain of Assam breaks the Games record with 21.06 in the men’s 200m semifinals!
- Women’s javelin throw and women’s 100m hurdles finals in action
The men’s team final will be between Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra while the women’s team final will be Tamil Nadu vs Delhi.
The men’s final is set and it will be an all-Tamil Nadu affair - Velavan Senthilkumar vs Abhay Singh. Abhay defeated Rahul 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 12-10) in the second semifinal.
It will be Sunayna Kuruvilla vs Urwashi Joshi in the women’s singles final after Urwashi’s 3-1 (11-2, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8) over Tanvi Khanna in the second semifinal.
Tamil Nadu will have a player in the men’s singles final too. Velavan Senthilkumar beat fellow statemate Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu 3-2 (5-11, 11-6, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7) in the first semifinal. Velavan will face either statemate Abhay Singh or Maharashtra’s Rahul Baitha in the summit clash.
Tamil Nadu’s Sunayna Kuruvilla beat teenage sensation Anahat Singh of Delhi 3-2 (11-7, 6-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4) to reach the women’s singles final. Sunayna will face either Delhi’s Tanvi Khanna or Maharashtra’s Urwashi Joshi in the summit clash.
Women’s 50m freestyle final is underway. Maharashtra’s Avantika Chavan beats local favourite Maana Patel and wins gold with a Games record of 26.54s
Karnataka’s Srihari Nataraj wins the men’s 50m freestyle gold with a timing of 23.42s. Tamil Nadu’s Pavan Gupta falls just short and takes silver with 23.48s. Bronze goes to Rudransh Manoj Mishra (23.62s) of Services.
Gujarat’s Maana Patel easily wins the women’s 200m backstroke gold. Soubrity Mondal of West Bengal clinches silver while Palak Joshi of Maharashtra gets bronze.
In the men’s 200m backstroke, Karnataka’s Utkarsh Patil wins gold with a new Games Record of 2:05.08s. Silver goes to Advait Page while Karnataka’s S Siva take bronze.
Advait Page of Madhya Pradesh clinched gold in the men’s 400m individual medley. Silver goes to Kerala’s Sajan Prakesh while Aryan Nehra of Gujarat takes the bronze.
In the women’s 400m medley, Hashika Ramachandra of Karnataka won the gold medal. Richa Mishra of Madhya Pradesh took the silver while bronze went to Kanya Nayyar of Madhya Pradesh.
Goldi Mishra of Jharkhand wins the individual men’s recurve gold by beating Punjab’s Azadveer Singh 6-2 in the final. In the bronze medal match, Rajasthan’s Anuj defeated Suresh Kumar Gurung of Services 6-2.
In the women’s individual recurve final, Manipur’s Okram Naobi Chanu won gold with a 6-5 win over Gujarat’s Rathva Ganpathbhai in the final. Laiphrakpam Devi of Manipur defeated Bihar’s Pooja Kumari 7-1 in the bronze medal match.
In team events, Manipur and Kerala won the men’s and women’s gold medals, respectively.
The men’s and women’s doubles final are underway! Karnataka is involved in both the clashes. In the men’s final, it faces Gujarat while the women’s final is against Maharashtra.
Karnataka completes a 6-2, 6-4 win over Tamil Nadu and therefore, the mixed doubles final is set - Maharashtra vs Karnataka.
Maharashtra has made it to the mixed’s doubles final with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Gujarat. In the second semifinal, Karnataka leads Tamil Nadu 6-2.
In singles, the men’s final will be between Maharashtra’s Arjun Kadhe (beat Karnataka’s S D Prajwal Dev in semis) and Tamil Nadu’s Manish Sureshkumar (beat Manish G of Karnataka in semis).
The women’s singles final will be held between Karntaka’s Sharmada Balu (beat West Bengal’s Yubrani Banerjee in semis) and Zeel Desai of Gujarat (beat Maharashtra’s Rutuja Bhosale in semis).
The men’s singles final is set - Soumen Banerjee (West Bengal) vs Sunil Bahadur (Jharkhand). In the semifinals, Soumen beat Delhi’s Vikram Rajak 21-10 while Sunil defeated Mridul Borgohain 21-19.
The women’s pairs final will be between Assam and Jharkhand after their respective semifinal wins over Bihar and West Bengal.
Punjab won the men’s team sabre gold with a 45-34 victory over Services in the final. However, in the women’s epee team final, Punjab lost 43-44 to Chandigarh.
Vipan Kumar of Services wins men’s +109kg gold with a total of 356. The second placed Hitesh Kumar of Haryana was more than 15kg behind Vipan, Shyopat Singh of Rajasthan won bronze.

Purnima Pandey of Uttar Pradesh wins gold in the women’s +87kg category with a total of 215kg, while Ann Mariya of Kerala lifted 211 kg to bag silver and Manpreet Kaur of Punjab won bronze with a total of 207kg.
It’s double delight for Maharashtra as the women’s team also wins gold with 18-16 victory over Odisha in the final.

Ram Baboo of Uttar Pradesh clinched the top honour and broke the NATIONAL RECORD for the men’s 35km race walk with a time of 2:36:34.00.
Uttarakhand’s Payal won the gold in the women’s 35km race walk by clocking 3:11:23.00. However, the national record holder for the event Punjab’s Ramandeep Kaur did not compete in the event.
Top seed Malvika defeats Unnati 22-20, 21-13 to enter round 2 in the women’s singles.

Swimmers Advait Page, Bhavya Sachdeva hog limelight
Advait Page didn't go all out and swam well within himself yet he dominated the men’s 1500m freestyle to set a new games record on the second day of the swimming events of the 36th National Games at the Sardar Patel Aquatic complex on Monday.
Delhi’s Bhavya Sachdeva underlined her growing stature by setting a new mark in women’s 800m race while S. Lakshya broke the record twice in 200m breaststroke to hog the limelight on the day which saw Karnataka women set a new mark in 4x100m medley relay.
Advait’s main rival Sajan Prakash pulled out of the final due a niggle and the Madhya Pradesh lad preserved his energy in the first half of the race which saw Gujarat’s Aryan Nehra and Karnataka's Aneesh Gowda keeping pace with the favourite. However, Advait pulled ahead after the 800 metres and took a sufficient lead as others faded away. Advait clocked a slow 15:54.79s to break Sajan Prakash’s old mark (15:55.78) set in 2015. Aryan took the silver while Aneesh finished with the bronze medal.
In the women’s 800m freestyle event, Vritti Agarwal and Ashmita Chandra stalked Bhavya for the first 200 metres. However, the Delhi girl went into the clear lead after 300m and set the pace alone to break the record in 9:15.24.

In one of the better contested finals, Karnataka’s S. Lakshya beat back a late challenge from Chahat Arora to win the women’s 200m breaststroke event. Lakshya, who broke the existing record in the heats in the morning, was off to a fine start and took an early lead. However, Chahat Arora who was in fourth position at the home stretch overtook Harshitha and Kalayani and pushed Lakshya who managed to cling on to her lead to set a new record (2:42.63). The Karnataka 4x100m relay squad of Ridhima, Manavi, Tanishi and Nina set a new record by clocking 4:27.78s.

Rani Rampal hat-trick guides Haryana to victory; Maharashtra men thrash Gujarat
Captain Rani Rampal’s hat-trick powered Haryana to its second straight win in women’s hockey event of the 36th National Games at the Dhyanchand stadium here on Monday.
Haryana rode on Rani’s brilliance to beat Odisha 4-0 in Group A. Rani scored in the 14th, 16th and 24th minutes to complete her hat-trick while Sharmila Devi scored the other goal for Haryana.
There was no respite for host Gujarat which lost heavily to Uttar Pradesh 20-0 in another lopsided Group A contest.
Karnataka held Jharkhand to a thrilling 3-3 draw in a group B match. Karnataka went ahead twice only to find Jharkhand drawing level. Jharkhand went ahead for the first time in the match in the 51st minute through Deepika Soreng’s field goal. But the resilient Karnataka girls found the equaliser in the 57th minute when captain Kruthika converted a penalty corner.
In the men’s section, Maharashtra hammered host Gujarat 20-1 while Haryana thrashed West Bengal 7-0 with Abhishek scoring a hat-trick.

Sifat Samra clinches women’s 50m 3p gold; Vijayveer and Harnavdeep win gold in 10m air pistol mixed team
Sift Kaur Samra on Monday pipped seasoned campaigner Shriyanka Sadangi to claim the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions title in a thrilling gold-medal match at the 36 th National Games.
Sift, who had to fend off Olympian and eventual bronze medallist Anjum Moudgil in a shoot-off to qualify for the final, was off to a flying start.
The Punjab shooter maintained a clean sheet until she had bagged six points. At a time when most would have thrown in the towel, Sadangi gave a glimpse of her experience on the final day of the rifle and pistol disciplines at the Rifle Club in Khanpur.
First, she registered a 10.4 to tie with Sift in the fourth competition shot. With the total now at 7-1, she scored two back-to-back 10s to claim the next two series.
When the scores reached 13-7, Sift’s coaching team had already started celebrating. But the 27-year-old from Odisha wasn’t done yet. A massive 10.8 followed by a 10.4 had Sadangi breathing on Sift’s neck.
National Games: Acceptance key to shooter Shreya Agrawal’s battle with personal loss
Although, Sift claimed the next point, Sadangi bounced back to pocket the next two series with a 10.7 followed by a 10.8 to draw level at 15-15.
With both shooters one hit away from the winning mark, Sift and Sadangi each recorded a 9.6, the spectators gasping in disbelief.
Sift held her composure to fire a 10.1, compared to Sadangi’s 9.8, to romp home 18-16.
Earlier, the 10m air pistol mixed team gold-medal deciding tie was a closely contested affair as well, with qualification runner-up Punjab claiming the yellow metal with a 17-11 scoreline.
With the score at 4-2 in favour of Uttar Pradesh, Vijayveer Sidhu of Punjab, also the gold medallist in the individual event, shot a perfect 10.9. If that wasn’t enough to rattle the opponent, Vijayveer’s partner Harnavdeep Kaur hit a perfect shot again two series later.
Although Punjab picked up eight points on the spin, the momentum soon shifted towards Yuvika Tomar and Ujjawal Malik of UP, who managed to take their score to 11 with Punjab at 13. However, Vijayveer and Harnavdeep didn’t let them win a point more and secured the gold. Maharashtra and Haryana won the two bronze medals on offer.
ATHLETICS-
Siva Subramaniam breaks men’s pole vault national record
Siva Subramaniam scripted a new National record as he secured the men’s pole vault title at the athletics arena of the National Games here on Monday.
Siva marginally improved his own record as he achieved 5.31m. His previous best of 5.30m had come in 2018.
The Services pole vaulter also shattered the 35-year-old Games record of 5.10m set by Vijay Pal Singh in Thiruvananthapuram.

Gulveer Singh clocked 28:54.29 to win the men’s 10,000m crown with a new Games record. The previous record was in the name of G. Lakshmanan, who had done 29:13.10 seven years ago.
Kirpal Singh also set a new Games mark as he threw the discus to 59.32m. He went past Shakti Singh’s 1997 performance of 58.56m.
Nayana James beat World under-20 silver medallist Shaili Singh, who returned to action after an injury to do 6.28m, to bag the women’s long jump title with a leap of 6.33m

ARCHERY-
Atanu to take on Gurucharan in archery final
Olympian Atanu Das showed his old touch as he made it to the recurve men’s individual summit clash at the Sanskardham archery ground in the National Games here on Monday.
Atanu will take on Gurucharan Besra in the final.
Atanu beat Parth Salunkhe 6-0 in the quarterfinals and fellow Olympian Tarundeep Rai 6-0 in the semifinals on his way to reaching the final.
Tarundeep had beaten another seasoned archer, Jayanta Talukdar, 6-2 in the last-eight.
Besra overcame Gaurav Lambe 7-1 in the semifinals.
Anshika Kumari Singh, who got past Simranjeet Kaur 6-4 in the semis, and Sangeeta, who trounced Avani 6-0 in the last four, qualified for the recurve women’s final as established names such as Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari lost prior to the semifinals.
ROLLER SPORTS
Maharashtra (five gold medals) and Tamil Nadu (three gold medals) emerged as champion and runner-up, respectively, in the Roller Sports discipline on Sunday night at the 36th National Games. All competitions, after three days of cut and thrust at the picturesque Sabarmati Riverfront, are now over.
Ranju Singh, from Manipur, was the gold medallist in the skateboarding skeet category. Maharashtra’s Shraddha Gaikwad was the winner among women.
Ranju first learned the nuances of the sport in darkness and on empty streets, waking up before dawn to practice. He had to struggle to find funds for training and equipment. “I took up several part-time jobs, including whitewashing, to fund my training,” Ranju said
Gaikwad, explaining how she started roller-skating, said it had to do with her father’s job as a security guard at an sports goods shop. One day, Gaikwad came to the shop to deliver lunch for her father and saw an interesting sight.
“I saw people skateboarding at the store and tried my hand at it. The store manager Abu Sheikh saw me practice and gifted me a pair of shoes and a skateboard. I began training and I soon became pretty good at it,” the 16-year-old said.
Gaikwad’s story has been captured by a Netflix movie called Skater Girl.
Both Ranju and Gaikwad hope their success in the National Games help them find financial and technical support to pursue their sport as they focus on qualifying for the Asian Games.

WEIGHTLIFTING-
Sambo Lapung wins gold in 96kg Weightlifting; Lovepreet Singh bags top honours in 109kg
Arunachal Pradesh’s Sambo Lapung conquered his love for fast food to break fellow Services lifter Vikas Thakur’s three-year-old clean and jerk record and claim the men’s 96kg gold medal at the weightlifting arena of the National Games here on Monday.
Representing his State, 25-year-old Sambo achieved 148kg in snatch and 198kg in his final clean jerk attempt, a kg more than Vikas’ previous record, to total 346kg and beat Services’ Jagdish by 15kg.
A boxer-turned-lifter who took to lifting to avoid punishment from his boxing coach, Sambo’s performance was 10kg more than that of his own gold medal winning aggregate of 336kg in the national championships in Bhubaneswar in March.
“I came here to compete with myself and had one eye on the record,” Sambo said.
Sambo’s coach Yukar Sibi said he was strict about the lifter’s diet.
“Sambo is a lover of fast food and was disqualified from the 2021 Nationals for being overweight. So I kept an eye on his diet. We had been targeting this record for some time,” said Sibi.
Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Lovepreet Singh aggregated 338kg, way below his showing of 355kg in Birmingham, to ensure the 109kg gold before skipping his last two attempts.
