Mithali Raj: Truly a class act

During the 2017 Women’s World Cup, where Mithali Raj has currently scored 356 runs, she went past the 6000-mark and became the first woman to do so.

6137 Number of ODI runs score by Mithali Raj in 184 ODIs, more than any other player in women’s ODIs. During the 2017 Women’s World Cup (“2017 WC”), where Mithali has currently scored 356 runs, she went past the 6000-mark and became the first woman to do so. The previous record for the most runs (5992) was held by England’s Charlotte Edwards, who had played 191 ODIs.

55 Number of 50-plus scores by Mithali in ODIs, the joint-most for any player. She has made 49 fifties and six hundreds. Charlotte Edwards also has 55 scores of 50 or more, including 46 fifties and nine hundreds. Mithali equalled Charlotte Edwards’ record when she scored 109 in a do-or-die match against New Zealand in the 2017 WC. While Mithali leads the list of players with the most 50-plus scores, she has only made six hundreds and is joint-sixth on the list of players to score the most hundreds, lead by Australia’s Meg Lanning (11).

 

7 Number of consecutive 50-plus scores posted by Mithali. She is the first player to make seven consecutive 50-plus scores in women’s ODIs, with the previous record being six. Mithali made this record her own when she brought up the seventh fifty of her sequence with a score of 71 in the 2017 WC match against England.

52 Mithali’s batting average in Women’s ODIs, the second-most for any player who has scored at least 1500 runs (and there are 46 such players). The only player with a higher batting average than Mithali is Meg Lanning, who has scored 2999 runs from 62 ODIs, at an average of 55.53.

107 Number of times Mithali has captained India in ODIs. The only player to captain her side in more ODIs is Charlotte Edwards, who had led England in 117 ODIs.

1086 Number of runs scored by Mithali from 27 World Cup innings, the most for an Indian and the fifth-most for any player. She went past the 1000-mark during the 2017 WC and, in the process, became the first Indian to do so. She has made 11 scores of 50 or more, including two hundreds, in World Cups. The only player with more such scores is New Zealand’s Debbie Hockley who has 12 scores of 50 or more, including two hundreds, though she had played 43 innings in World Cup matches.

109 Runs scored by Mithali against New Zealand, in Derby, during the 2017 WC. This is the highest score by an Indian in a World Cup match (though there have been 27 higher scores by players from other countries). The previous highest by an Indian was 107 by Harmanpreet Kaur against England, in Mumbai, during the 2013 World Cup.
