Trump tweet namesake Covfefe wins $1 million in Breeders' Cup sprint

Named after a viral 'mistweet' by US President Donald Trump, the three-year-old filly walked home with the big bucks at the Breeders' Cup in California.

Covfefe has just won a Breeders' Cup fixture, and no, this isn't fake news.

Covfefe is among the millions again, and no, this isn't fake news and neither is this a reference to US President Donald Trump. However, it is now the name of a horse which is named after the tweet by Trump, which just won the (G1) Filly & Mare Sprint and a million dollars at the Breeders' Cup on Saturday, bringing Twitter's attention back to what is now his infamous 2017 mistweet.

Owned by LNJ Foxwoods and ridden by Joel Rosario, Covfefe was the 3/2 favourite. She beat second best Bellafina by three-quarters to take the race and cap a near flawless season.

Covfefe managed to break from the rail, cruising to her third straight victory and her sixth win overall. Purchased as a yearling for $250,000, organisers confirmed she has now earned $1,110,025.

Jamie Roth, co-owner of LNJ Foxwoods, explained the unique choice of name in an interview to

USA Today . “We gave the name to her because we thought she was special and we thought the name was kind of funny."

Covfefe has a raging online presence as well, with her own

Twitter account where she often takes digs at the President.

News of the thoroughbreed's win has taken Twitter by storm, prompting a response from Trump himself.

Riding high on the win at Santa Anita, Covfefe's Twitter account jumped to the social media users rescue to decipher the mistweet's 'deeper' meaning.

Congratulations and confusion seems to best describe Twitter's reaction to the word trending again. While some were confused about the famous word resurfacing online, others were quick to spin the filly's win to poke fun at America's political climate. Eitherway, the horse has been receiving love online.

With her fifth win and six starts this season and her sixth overall, Covfefe is here to ride the long strait. Her owners, meanwhile, assure enthusiasts that the political inspiration doesn't stop here. Roth reveals they have blocked the name 'Trump Tweets' through the breed registry but will wait until the time is right to use it.
