IBA Junior World Boxing Championships 2023: 8 boxers cruise into the semis; confirm medals
World championships silver medallist Amit Panghal overcame a strong challenge from Ankit in the semifinals to book a slot in the 51kg summit clash in the National boxing championships at the SAI Indoor Hall in Shillong on Thursday.
Amit managed a 3-2 card in his favour following which the bout was reviewed. The ace boxer was adjudged the winner with a 5-2 verdict after getting the evaluator and observer’s votes.
Railways’ Sachin Siwach and his namesake and village-mate of Services, both former World youth champions, won their respective last-four clashes to set-up a mouthwatering 57kg title duel.
Lakshya Chahar defeated defending champion Abhimanyu Loura 3-0 in a keenly-fought bout to enter the 80kg final.

Angadvir and Ganemat clinch gold in National Championship
Angadvir Singh Bajwa and Ganemat Sekhon won the mixed skeet gold for Punjab in the 66th National shooting championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Thursday.
The duo proved beat Rajasthan’s Darshna Rathore and Anantjeet Singh Naruka 47-41, after having topped qualification with 140.
In the women’s 50-metre rifle 3-position event, Asian Games champion Sift Kaur Samra beat Olympian Anjum Moudgil by 1.9 point for the gold. Ashi Chouksey won the bronze ahead of qualification topper Nischal who shot a national record 595.
Nischal won the junior gold by beating Ashi Chouksey by 2.7 points.

Sumit Nagal bows out of Maspalomas Challenger
Second seed Sumit Nagal was beaten 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 by qualifier Imanol Lopez Morillo in the pre-quarterfinals of the €73,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Maspalomas, Spain, on Thursday.

Laxmisiri Dandu reaches quarterfinals of ITF junior tennis tournament
Laxmisiri Dandu stretched her fine run and ousted the national junior champion Aishwarya Jadhav 6-3, 6-3 in the girls’ quarterfinals of the ITF junior tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex on Friday.
In the semifinals, Laxmisiri will play Rishitha Basireddy.
The other semifinal will be between Aishi Bisht who knocked out fifth seed Ariana Gogulina of Kazakhstan, and Sohini Mohanty.
In the boys section, Rethin Pranav stopped Samarth Sahita in three sets, and will face third seed Cahir Warik. The other semifinal will be between top seed Kriish Tyagi and Hiromasa Koyama of Japan.

Schmidt overcomes Sandeepti resistance to reach quarterfinal of $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament
Fifth seed Antonia Schmidt overcame a stiff resistance from Sandeepti Singh Rao for a 7-6(9), 7-6(5) victory in the pre-quarterfinals of the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the Ahmedabad City Foundation courts on Thursday.
Sandeepti led 4-1 in the first set and later missed three set points in the tie-break. In the second set, Sandeepti recovered from being down 3-5 to stretch the fight, but the German pipped her in the eventual tie-break.
Vaidehi Chaudhari, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Humera Baharmus and Tanisha Kashyap made the quarterfinals among the Indian players.
