Khelo India Games a hit on television

The event was watched by 102 million viewers on Star network.

Sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was elated by the buzz generated by the event.

One hundred and two million viewers watched the Khelo India School Games on Star TV .

According to the broadcaster, which shared the viewership stats with Sportstar , a crew of over 100 specialists spread over multiple arenas, covering over 70 events, delivered eight hours of live coverage each day across three channels and Hotstar .

The highlights of the Games were shown across

Star India ’s bouquet of channels in Asia Pacific, U. K. and Continental Europe as well as the Middle-East, to drive international exposure and recognition for India’s future sports stars.

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, the sports minister, expressed ‘delight’ at the buzz created by the initiative. “I am delighted with the kind of response Khelo India School Games has evoked in sports fans all over India. The quality broadcast and the viewership that we have garnered for the inaugural edition is a proof to the kind of potential that we see in sports to shape India’s future champions,” he said.

‘True champions’

The Games are a step in the right direction to help India achieve a dream of becoming a sporting powerhouse, according to Rathore. He said, “The athletes have tremendous potential and are already behaving like true champions whilst celebrating their triumphs on television. With this support, encouragement and partnership, I am confident that in about four to five years, these athletes will be world-class.”

Star India viewed the tourney as a healthy campaign to promote a multi-sports ecosystem in the country. Its managing director, Sanjay Gupta, said it “inspires parents and teachers to encourage their kids to emulate the feats of future sporting stars.”

“The spectators viewership we have received is a testament to the support and intent that India has shown towards embracing sports. The tremendous response we have received for the inaugural edition of the event has further motivated us to realise a vision of making 30 crore children actively participate in sporting activities for an our every day,” Gupta added.

The Khelo India pledge has already been taken by more than 1.5 million people across the country.
