Serena Williams shared her support for the U.S. women's national team after she had an unusual encounter with its semifinal opponent — England.
Williams opted to stay in France after her third-round exit at Roland Garros to train by herself. However, she wasn't exactly by herself. She ended up sharing a gym with the English national soccer team as the players prepared for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.
"We spoke; we were like workout buddies," Williams said on Saturday (via ESPN ). "We worked out in the same vicinity. I like to say we worked out together.
"It was so fun to see how hard they worked, just how amazing they were. I was looking at them in the gym. I'm like, 'OK, I cannot do that.' At one point I wanted to join in their ab exercise. (I) wonder(ed) if I could scoot to the side and do exactly what they're doing."
Even though she made unlikely friends with the USWNT's foe, Williams insisted she's still rooting for the United States to take home the title. She said: "I love the team."

"It's so funny because obviously I'm rooting for U.S. I love the team. But when I was training in Paris, the British players were training exactly where I was every day," Williams added. "It's kind of cool being in that experience of watching the Brit women, then having obviously the team that I'm rooting for, USA, go against each other."
USA will face England on Tuesday in the semifinals of the 2019 Women's World Cup.
