Gold eluded India on day eight but athletics made it count with Dutee Chand, Hima Das and Muhammed Anas bagging silver medals.

10:17pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Sathiyan Gnanasekaran goes down in the fifth match to Yunju Lin 9-11, 11-3, 9-11, 9-11, as Chinese Taipei beats India in men's team event.

9:37pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Chinese Taipei pulls back things to make it 2-2 after Sharath Kamal goes down in Match 4.

8:20pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Sathiyan Gnanasekaran loses 10-12, 9-11, 9-11 to Chihyuan Chuang. Scores are back on level terms at 1-1.

8:05pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Sharath Kamal defeats Yunju Lin 11-8, 5-11, 12-10, 11-8 to give India a 1-0 lead.

7:45pm: (ATHLETICS): Oh my, what a run! Dutee Chand scorches the track to clinch the silver medal in the women's 100m with a timing of 11.32s.This is India's third athletics silver medal of the day.

7:20pm: (TABLE TENNIS): The Indian table tennis team is back in action as it takes on Chinese Taipei in a Group D encounter.

7:15pm: (ATHLETICS): Another Indian in the 400m hurdles final! Dharun Ayyasamy finishes second in his heat, clocking 49.55s to make it to the final.

7:10pm: (ATHLETICS): News has just come in, G. Lakshmanan has been disqualified from the men's 10,000m race after he was found to have stepped out of the track. He will now lose his  bronze medal.

7:05pm: (ATHLETICS): HE SETS THE TRACK ON FIRE! Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan soars into the men's 400m hurdles final after finishing second in the semifinal with a timing of 50.46s.

6:45pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Indian women's table tennis team has progressed to the quarterfinals after beating Iran 3-1 in its final pool fixture. India finishes second in Group A after winning two of its three ties. Manika Batra (2 wins) and Mouma Das took India safely into the knockouts. Ayhika Mukherjee was the only Indian to lose her match.

6:40pm: (ATHLETICS): Men's Long Jump Final: Sreeshankar is out of contention for a medal after a faulty start in his sixth and final attempt. He finishes sixth in the final.

6:30pm: ( ATHLETICS): Men's Long Jump Final: Sreeshankar has slipped to fifth at the end of five attempts. He still has one attempt left and needs to go above 8.09m to have a shot at a medal. It looks like a tough proposition at the moment.

6:20pm: (ATHLETICS): Men's 10,000m: G. Lakshmanan wins bronze with a timing of 29:44.91. That's India's third athletics medal of the day. Are we in for more?

6:15pm: (BRIDGE) : Two bronze medals confirmed for India in bridge. The men's team and the mixed team will walk away with bronze medals after failing to finish in the top two in the semifinals.   

6:05pm: (HOCKEY): India conceded goals for the first time in the current edition of Asian Games but still registered a comfortable 5-3 win over Korea. India will play its last group match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

6:00pm ( ATHLETICS): Men's Long Jump final: Sreeshankar is back in the reckoning for a medal with a 7.95m jump in his second attempt. He is currently placed third. 

5:52pm (BOXING): Shiva Thapa knocked out in the Round of 16 match of the men's lightweight 60kg category.

 

5:24pm (ATHLETICS): Men's Long Jump Final: India's Sreeshankar is in the fourth position (7.76mm) after the end of first series of jumps. China's Jianan Wang (with a Games record jump of 8.24m), Yaoguang Zhang ( 8.15m) and Sri Lanka's Janaka Prasa Wimalasi (7.86m) are in the Top 3. 

5:20pm (ATHLETICS): Men's Long Jump Final: India's Sreeshankar is currently in the second place after registering a 7.76m jump.

5:15pm (HOCKEY):  Off goes the hooter. Korea puts up a much better display in the second quarter and looks a lot more composed now. The Indian attack continues to threaten the opposition defence. India leads 3-0. ===> Live Commentary

5:00 pm ( ATHLETICS): Women's 100m semifinal: That was quite a photo finish and it takes quite a lot of reviews to confirm the Top 3. India's Dutee Chand, who was leading for a brief period, finishes third and qualifies for the final. She clocks 11.43 in the semifinal 1. It was just .01 seconds (1/100th) slower than Olga Safronova of Kazakhstan who finished on the top. Dutee Chand has a national record of 11.24s, so she is certainly capable of bettering her mark.   At the end of both the semifinals, Dutee Chand is ranked fifth in the list for the final.

4:57pm: (ATHLETICS): It's going to be a packed hour in athletics as Dutee Chand gears up for the women's 100m semiifinals.  We have Sreeshankar competing in the men's long jump shortly after that.

4:53pm: (HOCKEY):  WHAT A BEAUTY OF A GOAL! Simranjeet Singh plays a peach of a lob from midfield to find Lalit Kumar in the box, who coolly finds the back of the net. India now leads 3-0. ===> Live Commentary

3:57pm: (ARCHERY): The Indian men's compound men (Rajat Chauhan, Aman Saini and Abhishek Verma ) has entered the final with a 230-227 win over Chinese Taipei. It's going to be India vs South Korea in both men's and women's compound team gold medal match. Both will be held on Tuesday.

3:50pm: (SEPAK TAKRAW): India registers a come-from-behind victory over China (2-1) in a Men's Regu preliminary Group B match.

3:30pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Indian men's team begins the campaign with a 3-0 win over UAE in Group D. India will face Chinese Taipei in its second match at 6.30pm IST.  G. Sathiyan registered a 11-6, 11-3, 11-4 win over Aldin Albalooshi; Sharath Kamal eased into a 11-9, 11-6, 11-5 win over Abdulla Albalooshi and Harmanpreet Desai won 11-4, 11-2, 11-8 against Essa Alblooshi. 

3:11 pm:  (ARCHERY): The Indian men's compound team is on course to emulate the women's team. The team comprising Rajat Chauhan, Aman Saini and Abhishek Verma edges Philippines 227-226 to progress to the semifinals. India will face Chinese Taipei in the semifinals later today (3:30 pm IST).

3:00 pm:  (BOXING):  Women's Fly 51kg category: India's Sarjubala Devi wins her Round-of-16 match against Madina Ghaforova in an unanimous verdict (5-0). She is through to the quarterfinals. 

2:54pm: (BADMINTON) Women's singles: India is assured of two badminton bronze medals as P.V. Sindhu beats Jindapol Nitchaon 21-10, 16-21, 21-14. Detailed coverage here

2:25pm: (BOXING): Men's Welter 69kg category: Manoj Kumar, 2010 CWG gold medallist, loses his Round of 16 match to Kyrgyzstan's Abdurakhmanov 0-5.

2:30 pm: (BADMINTON): P.V. Sindhu concedes the second game 16-21 and the match is now tied 1-1. Follow the badminton blog here

2:05 pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Indian women's team loses to China 0-3 in its second Group A match. Manika Batra, Ayhika Mukherjee and Madhurika Patkar all lost their respective matches. India had won the first tie against Qatar and has another pool match scheduled later in the evening ( 4:30pm IST) against Iran today.

2:00 pm: (SHOOTING): We have no luck so far in shooting today. Indians have failed to qualify in the men's skeet event as well. Sheerz Sheikh and Angad Bajwa finish 13th and 14th respectively in the qualification. 

1:50 pm: (BADMINTON): The quarterfinal match between P.V. Sindhu and Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol has begun. Follow the badminton blog here

1:25 pm (ARCHERY): With two archers hitting the bull's eye in the last set, India surges ahead and makes it to the final of the women's compound team final. So, India is assured of at least a silver in archery. It certainly has been a great one hour for India at the Asian Games. After two silver medals in equestrian and Saina following it up with a win in the quarterfinals, the women's compound team has done its bit to boost India's tally.  India will face Korea in the gold medal match on Tuesday at 11.15am IST.

SAINA THROUGH TO SEMIFINALS

1:15pm (BADMINTON): Saina Nehwal has assured India of a medal by progressing to the semifinals of the women's event with a 21-18, 21-16 win over Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon. It will be India's first individual medal in badminton in 36 years. P.V. Sindhu will try to add to the record when she faces Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol in the quarterfinals a short while from now ( Tentative Start time: 1:45pm IST). Badminton special blog here

1:12 pm ( VOLLEYBALL):  Indian men's team loses to Japan 3-1 ( 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20) in a closely fought match.

1:05 pm (CANOE/ KAYAK SPRINT): Indian women's team finishes seventh in the Canoe TBR 500m event.

1:00 pm (BADMINTON): After winning the first game 21-18, India's Saina Nehwal looks on course for a win and is currently leading 8-5 in the second game. against Intanon . Follow the live commentary here

12:40pm: (ARCHERY): The Indian compound women's team has made it to the semifinals with a 229-224 win over host Indonesia. The team comprising Muskan Kirar, Madhumita Kumari and Jyoti Surekha will face Chinese Taipei for a place in the final!  The semifinal will

 

India wins two silver medals in Equestrian

12: 30 pm: ( EQUESTRIAN): India's Fouaad Mirza wins silver in eventing individual jumping final. India has also grabbed a silver medal in the eventing team jumping final.  Indian Olympic Association, in fact, had initially decided against sending a team for equestrian . The team has vindicated its presence by winning two medals!

12:10 pm (SHOOTING): Ganemat Sekhon and Rashmi Rathore have failed to qualify for final of women's skeet event .

12:01 pm (VOLLEYBALL): Another thrilling set which ends in Japan's favour 25-22. A big task ahead for India now if it is to win this match.

11:59 am (SHOOTING): Both Ganemat Sekhon and Rashmi Rathor fail to qualify for the Women's skeet final after finishing 10th and 12th respectively.

11:28 am (VOLLEYBALL): India is in action against Japan in the men's classification event. A nail-biting first set ends with Japan clinching it 25-23 in the end. 

11:23 am (CANOE): The women's team also fail to make Final A in the TBR 500m sprint after it finished fourth in the semifinals.

11:00 am (HANDBALL): A valiant effort from the Indian team but can't complete the comeback today against a skillful Taipei side. India loses 31-35 and remains second in the Main Round Group 3 table behind Taipei, which has played a game more.

10:56 am (HANDBALL): Things are heating up in the second half of the men's handball match between India and Chinese Taipei. After trailing 9-15 at one stage, India is now three goals away from tying the scoreline with two minutes to play.

10:29 am (CANOE): The men's team finish fifth in the semifinals of the TBR 500m sprint and qualify for the B final, which is not a medal race.

10:23 am (ARCHERY): The men's compound team will take on the Philippines in the quarterfinals later in the day. The women's team will face Indonesia in its compound quarterfinals.

10:21 am (SHOOTING): Ganemat Sekhon and Rashmi Rathore are placed 10th and 12th respectively after their series of five shots in the women's skeet qualification.

10:08 am (HANDBALL): An exciting first half comes to an end with Chinese Taipei in the lead at 15-12. Can India make a comeback and win the match?

10:06 am (CANOE): The Indian men's team have also qualified for the semifinals of the TBR 500m sprint after it finished second in the repechage with a time of 2:23.162.

10:03 am (ATHLETICS):  UPDATE: The men's 400m hurdles heats have been cancelled. The participants, including India's Dharun Ayyasamy and Santhosh Kumar, will directly take part in the semifinals later in the day.

9:51 am (ARCHERY): India's men's compound team of Rajat Chauhan, Abhishek Verma and Aman Saini has defeated Qatar by a score of 227-213. They beat the opposition with scores of 57-52, 56-55, 56-54, 58-52 to qualify for the quarterfinals. ( REPORT )

9:48 am (HANDBALL): The men's handball team is in action against Chinese Taipei in a Main Round match. India is trailing 5-11 in the first half.

9:40 AM (SEPAK TAKRAW): Two defeats in two days for India in the men's regu team. India loses to Malaysia 0-2 after a similar scoreline defeat to South Korea yesterday.

9:35 am (TABLE TENNIS): Easy win for India to start things off. Mouma Das, Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee combine to beat Qatar 3-0 in a women's team group A match.

9:28 am (ATHLETICS): Spoke too soon... The official standing for the women's 400m hurdles has been updated and Jauna Murmu has made the cut for the finals! She qualifies as the fastest loser from Heat 1.

9:23 am (CANOE): Contrasting fortunes for both the men's and women's team in the Canoe TBR 500m heats. The women's team qualified for the semifinals with a third place finish whereas the men's team could only finish fifth and qualify for the repechage.

9:12 am (ATHLETICS): Anu Raghavan qualifies for the final with a third-place finish and a time of 56.77.  The Indian will have her task cut out tomorrow as her fellow heat competitor Oluwakemi Adekoya of Bahrain smashes the Games record with a time of 54.87.

9:10 am (ATHLETICS): Anu Raghavan's turn now in Heat 2. If she finishes in the first three positions, she will qualify for the finals tomorrow. 

9:00 am (ATHLETICS): Jauna Murmu and Anu Raghavan are in action right now in 400m hurdles heats.  Murmu completes the Heat 1 in 4th position but has been disqualified.

8:00 am (SHOOTING): Rashmi Rathore starts the day with a shot of 23 out of 25 in the women's skeet qualification. The shot takes her total to 91 out of 100 with another effort left. 17-year-old Ganemat Sekhon shot a 22 to take her total score to 90.

Just a single gold medal and three bronze for the Indian contingent last night. Tajinderpal Singh opened India's account in athletics at the Games with a gold medal in shot put. Dipika Pallikal, Joshna Chinappa and Saurav Ghosal all lost their semifinal match yesterday but in the process landed a bronze medal each. Here are the Indian highlights from Saturday.
