Sunishka Kartik wins award in Junior NBA World Championship

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, three-time NBA champion and Jr. NBA World Championship global ambassador Dwyane Wade and four-time WNBA Champion Sheryl Swoopes presented the trophies.

Sunishka Kartik won the Community award in the Junior NBA World Basketball Championship which concluded at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, US, on Sunday.

The 13-year-old from Bengaluru had top-scored with 17 points in the team’s impressive win over South America Combined in a pool game.

"The award recognises players who are committed to give back to those in need," said an official release that summed up the competition.

The US Central boys and girls teams won the titles. The US Central girls beat Europe girls 68-38 in the final whle the Central boys beat Africa and Middle East boys 60-50.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, three-time NBA champion and Jr. NBA World Championship global ambassador Dwyane Wade and four-time WNBA Champion Sheryl Swoopes presented the trophies.

The tournament featured the best 13 and 14-year-old boys and girls from around the world, in 32 teams.
