The Golden State Warriors' best start in franchise history is now a family affair as Stephen Curry scored 34 points in a 107-99 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday. Curry has had the hot hand this year on the league's most dominant team and while he didn't have to carry the load against the Nets this Saturday, he did hit five three pointers to pass his father, Dell, on the NBA all-time list for threes.
The reigning league MVP now has 1,248 three pointers, three more than Dell Curry, who ranks 43rd on the all-time list. Andre Iguodala drained a game-tying three pointer with six seconds left in regulation as the defending league champion Warriors stretched their season opening win streak to 11-0.
Golden State appears to be even better than during their 67 win title run last season as they keep finding new ways to win. They are the 11th team in NBA history to start a season 11-0. If you include the latter part of the 2014-15 regular season, Golden State has won 15 consecutive games.
The record for the best start to a season is 15 straight held by the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and the 1993-94 Houston Rockets.
Power forward Draymond Green scored a basket and chipped in two assists in the game-winning burst. It wouldn't have gone into overtime without Andre Iguodala's clutch shot, which produced a tie at 97-97 after Nets power forward Thaddeus Young had given his team a three-point lead with 10 seconds left.
Brooklyn, which fell to 1-3 on its road trip and 1-9 overall, had two subsequent shots at a win, but point guard Jarrett Jack misfired on an 18-footer and center Brook Lopez failed to convert a lob as time expired.
Curry had a modest game for his standards and shot13-of-31, attempting 16 shots from beyond the arc. Green recorded his second career triple-double with 16 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds for Golden State. Center Andrew Bogut, of Australia, chipped in a 10-point, 18-rebound double-double. Jack led the Nets with 28 points, while Young had 26 points and 10 rebounds.
Moment of silence
Before the opening tip off, a moment of silence was observed along with the playing of the French national anthem in memory of those who lost their lives in the terror attacks in France on Friday. The outside of Golden State's Oracle Arena was also lit in red, white and blue as part of the tribute to the victims.
The Milwaukee Bucks snapped the Cleveland Cavaliers’ eight-game win streak with a 108-105 double overtime win behind a 16 point and 17 rebound performance from Greg Monroe. Michael Carter-Williams scored 17 points for Milwaukee in his return from an ankle injury. Jerryd Bayless also had 17 points while Giannis Antetokounmpo added 16 points and 11 rebounds.
LeBron James scored 37 points and scored Cleveland's final six points in regulation. Meanwhile, Jamal Crawford scored a season-high 37 points and Blake Griffin had 34 points, nine assists and eight rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 101-96 win over the Detroit Pistons.
