Babita fought hard to inch closer to gold, but the Canadian wrestler maintained supreme to ensure that she walked away with the coveted medal.

India had a perfect chance to grab gold in the women's freestyle 53kg wrestling event, but Babita Kumari had to be satisfied with a silver, after going down to Canada's Diana Weicker 5-2.

Babita lost the gold medal on account of her own defensive approach, which gave the leeway to Weicker to attack and see herself through. In the earlier round, prior to the title bout, Babita opened with a hard fought win over Samuel Bose (Nigeria) and then defeated Deepika Dilhani (Sri Lanka) and Carissa Holland (Australia), both by a fall.

In the women's 76kg, Kiran Bishnoi claimed a bronze. Kiran started off well with a a good win over Danielle Sino Gumede (Cameroon) but fell to Nigerian Blessing Oneybuchi in the next round, forcing her to enter the bronze medal bout.

Here, she was quite impressive as downed Katouskia Paridhaven by a fall.
