Kidambi Srikanth celebrated his World No. 1 ranking with a win over Sri Lanka's Nikula Karunaratne 21-10, 21-10 to sail into the men’s singles quarterfinals at the XXI Commonwealth Games on Thursday.

Meanwhile, H.S. Prannoy got the better of Australian Joe Anthony 21-18, 21-11.
In the women’s singles, P.V. Sindhu trumped Wendy Chen Yu-Hsuan of Australia 21-15, 21-19 while Saina Nehwal benefitted from the retirement of her rival, Jessica Li (Isle of Man), owing to an injury. The Indian was leading 21-4, 2-0 at the time.

Ruthvika Gadde too reached the round of last eight, securing a creditable 21-10, 21-23, 21-10 win over Singapore's Jia Min Yeo.
