Heartbreak for Manika and Mouma, settle for silver

The Indian pair of Manika Batra and Mouma Das lost 5-11, 4-11, 5-11 to Singapore’s Tianwei Feng and Yu Mengyu to take the silver medal in the women's table tennis doubles final of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Manika Batra and Mouma Das looked forlorn as they fell at the final hurdle of the women’s doubles table tennis  event in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, at the Oxenford studios here on Friday.

Having played a major role in Indian women's team event triumph, the duo looked forward to clinching another gold medal but was forced to settle for silver instead as it lost 5-11, 4-11, 5-11 to Singapore’s Tianwei Feng and Yu Mengyu.

India also suffered another blow when the pair of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Pooja Sahasrabudhe went down to Malaysia Ying Ho and Karen Lyne 13-15, 7-11, 11-8, 7-11 in the bronze medal match.

Meanwhile, Sharath Kamal stayed on course for a spot in the men’s singles final as he reached the semifinal with a hard-fought 9-11, 13-11, 10-12, 11-4, 11-6, 11-5 win over England’s Liam Pitchford.
