Herath backs Kuldeep, Chahal to spin magic in World Cup

Former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath also approves of Ravindra Jadeja’s selection for the variety he brings to the spin department.

Former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath feels the varying English conditions will offer assistance to spinners at some point in the tournament.

 

Former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath believes that the Indian spin trio — Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja — will give their best in the World Cup, which begins in England on May 30.

“They (the Indian spinners) have been playing well, especially (Yuzvendra) Chahal and Kuldeep (Yadav). That’s why they have picked right-arm leg-spinner and the chinaman (in the squad) and the other guy also (Ravindra Jadeja) ..... and I am sure in the coming World Cup, they will do their best," Herath, who has picked 433 Tests wickets told reporters here on Tuesday, in presence of compatriot Chaminda Vaas.

Herath also believes that even in the English conditions, the spinners will have a role to play. “The World Cup will be played all across England. In the later part, there will be some assistance for spinners as well. You can see some dry pitches as well. I am sure the spinners will get chance at one stage,” he said.

Talking about the impact of fingers spinners, Herath said: “They may give extra runs but you need wicket-taking options. As a finger-spinner, you need control with accuracy, then only you will get success.”
