“In fact, we will also be going international with camps in Trinidad, Dubai and London,” said CEO of Golden Goose Sports Yeragaselvan Kumarasamy. “We will also be brining in a wide range of experience and expertise. We want to create a wonderful platform for youngsters,” he added.

Sure enough, he was addressing the press conference along with the legendary Courtney Walsh, the mercurial Herschelle Gibbs, and the explosive Lance Klusener.

The trio, along with former South African left-arm spinning allrounder Nicky Boje and countryman Davy Jacobs, a former wicketkeeper batsman, are passing on their knowledge to aspirants in an ongoing coach camp here at the Kreeda Sports Foundation, Nandanam.

Ultimate Sports Coaching

The Golden Goose Sports has been conducting the camp in association with OneSeven Sports Ventures, Canada which has Jacobs and ICC America’s coach Derek Perera guiding it. This project of theirs is called Ultimate Sports Coaching.

Yeragaselvan, who managed Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in the inaugural year of the Caribbean Premier League, said Golden Goose would also be looking for tie-ups with reputed foreign coaching firms for lifting the standard of football in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Walsh said, “There is a need to get the boys balanced and strong. The boys can play other sports as well. It will improve their hand-eye coordination. The talent is there.”

Gibbs said the Indian boys lagged behind in fitness. “If you look at youngsters from South Africa, New Zealand or Australia, the Indian boys are behind physically. One of the reasons is because, growing up, they play only one sport. You need to play more sports to become really fit in one sport.”

Klusener said his interaction with the boys was “taxing but enriching.” Boje, Jacobs and Perera also shared their thoughts on the occasion. “The project has an international flavour and a long term vision,” said Perera. H. Vasantha Kumar, managing director, Vasanth & Co., one of the main sponsors, shared the stage with the rest.
