Kieron Pollard's 31-ball 83 including 10 towering sixes and three boundaries fashioned a sensational three wicket win over Kings XI Punjab. This was also Mumbai Indians' highest successful run chase in the IPL.
Kings XI seamer Sam Curran was at the receiving end of Pollard's blitz. The hat-trick hero— the most expensive Punjab bowler of the night — went for 54 in his four overs picking up the lone wicket of Suryakumar Yadav.
Siddhesh Lad finally made his Mumbai Indians debut after spending five years on the bench. He replaced the injured Rohit Sharma in Mumbai Indians’ playing XI against Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday. The 26-year-old has been one of the consistent performers for Mumbai in the domestic circuit, and in his pre-season media interaction, MI skipper Rohit Sharma had touted Lad as the ‘surprise element’. Lad, however, was dismissed early in the chase for a 13-ball 15.
K.L. Rahul hit his maiden IPL hundred off 63 ball during the KXIP-MI match at the Wankhede. Rahul and Chris Gayle (63) added 116 runs stand for the opening wicket as Punjab amassed 197/4 at the end of 20 overs. Rahul hammered six boundaries and as many as sixes during his blistering knock.
Chris Gayle was at his devastating best at the top of the order, striking 63 off just 36 balls. His innings was studded with seven sixes and three boundaries. He eventually holed out to Krunal Pandya off Jason Behrendorff's bowling.
The usually economical Hardik Pandya was taken to the cleaners by the Punjab batsmen. The Mumbai all-rounder took two wickets but conceded 57 off his four overs.
