Mithali, Smriti gun down 162 - India eves clinch series

Smriti Mandhana (90 no, 82 b, 13*4, 1*6) and Mithali Raj (63, 111 b, 4*4, 2*6) hit unbeaten half-centuries as India eves defeated New Zealand to clinch the ODI series.

  • India Women beats New Zealand Women by eight wickets to clinch series.
  • SIX - That's the winning shot and India women have clinched the series. Mithali Raj dances down the track and lofts one over the long-on boundary to seal the match by eight wickets. Brilliant show by the Indians. Smriti Mandhana along with her skipper forged an unbeaten 151-run stand to hammer a clueless New Zealand side by eight wickets. Massive win and most importantly, under new coach W.V. Raman, the Indian eves have come out all guns blazing to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

  • WICKET - Great start from India as Jhulan Goswami draws an edge from Suzie Bates and the opener departs for a duck. Just the start India wanted and the experienced Jhulan provides and early beakthrough.

A dominant India will look to seal the three-match ODI series with another collective effort and consolidate its position in the ICC women’s championship table when it faces New Zealand in the second ODI on Tuesday.

The Indian women’s team put behind off-field controversies by making a superb start to the three-ODI rubber - which is part of the ICC Women’s Championship series - thrashing New Zealand by nine wickets in the opening match.

Ahead of the series, Indian women’s cricket had found itself in the middle of a furore when ODI skipper Mithali Raj and then coach Ramesh Powar had a fallout during the semifinal of the T20 World Cup in West Indies.
