In the first match of the day, Chepauk Super Gillies defeated Tuti Patriots by 32 runs to finish second in the points table, tied with Siechem Madurai Panthers on 10 points, but with a better net run-rate.

Chasing a modest 128, Tuti Patriots was never in the chase, with only opener Akshay Srinivasan giving some fight with a valiant 50, but lacked support from the other end.

India all-rounder Vijay Shankar making his TNPL debut, struck first ball for CSG, dismissing Akash Sivan caught at mid-on and bowled a tight opening spell for eight runs in his first three overs.

Left-arm R. Alexander got one to spin and bowled skipper Subramania Siva, the only other player to reach double figures before spinners M. Siddarth and M. Ashwin kept things tight in the middle overs before pacers Harish Kumar and Periyaswamy cleaned up the lower order claiming five wickets between them.

Electing to bat, CSG was bowled out for 127 riding on K.H. Gopinath’s 53 with U. Sasidev and Kaushik Gandhi chipping with some cameos. Even as wickets fell at the other end, Gopinath was scoring at ease and got to his fifty playing some sparkling shots with five fours and a six off just 30 balls before he was dismissed.
