Vinod Rai, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief, has recommended a ban of two One-Day Internationals be handed to India all-rounder Hardik Pandya and opening batsman K. L. Rahul for their unpalatable comments on a television show.
However, Diana Edulji, a CoA member, has referred the matter to the BCCI’s legal cell.
CoA had issued show-cause notices to Pandya and Rahul , who had appeared with him in the same television show, on Wednesday. They had been given 24 hours to explain themselves to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In response to criticism, Pandya had made an apology on Twitter .
‘Not convinced’
Referring to Pandya’s explanation , Rai said, “I am not convinced with [Pandya]’s explanation and I have recommended a two-match ban for both players. However the final decision will be taken once Diana [Edulji] gives her go ahead,” Rai told PTI .
The comments made by the players were in “bad taste,” Rai felt. “Diana has sought legal opinion whether the duo can be banned. So, obviously a decision will be taken once she gives her nod. As far as I am concerned, the comments were crass, in bad taste and unacceptable,” he added.
Rahul, on the other hand, has not publicly reacted to the controversy.
It is learnt that Edulji has also sought the opinion of BCCI acting president C. K. Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry on the issue.
