David Warner and Quinton de Kock's fate for a staircase altercation on day four of the first Test between South Africa and Australia will be decided by the on-field umpires and match referee.
The pair clashed as the players left the field for tea in Durban on Sunday, South Africa having frustrated their visitors for much of the session.
Footage on South African television appeared to show Warner being separated from De Kock on the stairs at Kingsmead, captain Steve Smith – who was celebrating a 188-run victory early on Monday - one of those looking to break up the altercation.
Exactly what sparked the confrontation remains unclear, but Proteas manager Mohammed Moosajee described it as a "rather unfortunate" incident.
"It's rather unfortunate that the incident took place and certainly not in the spirit of the game," he said in a Cricket South Africa statement.
"The match referee has spoken to us after the day's play. We will await any further communication from the ICC around this incident."
A Cricket Australia spokesperson added: "Following the end of the second session there was an incident involving David Warner and Quinton de Kock on return to the changerooms.
"The incident was discussed between the two team managers and the match referee last night and it is now in the hands of the on-field umpires and match referee.
"Both teams were reminded by the match referee of the spirit in which the game should be played."
Australia wrapped up victory on day five inside four overs, Josh Hazlewood removing De Kock lbw for 83.
