Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is upset with the Egypt national team and may be ready to quit, according to CNN.com .
Salah and the team were stationed in Chechnya at the World Cup 2018 in Russia. A picture of Salah walking beside Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov drew criticism ahead of the competition.
Kadyrov, a highly controversial leader, made Salah an honorary citizen of the Chechen Republic.
"Mohamed Salah is an honorary citizen of the Chechen Republic! That's right!" the Chechen leader wrote in a social media post. "I gave Mohamed Salah a copy of the order and a pin at a celebratory dinner that I gave in honour of the Egyptian team."
But, according to the report, Salah now feels used by Kadyrov for political gain and does not want to be associated in that way.
Salah led the Premier League with 34 goals last season. He also had 11 assists, while leading Liverpool to the Champions League Final, where he left early with a shoulder injury.
Egypt's final World Cup game is against Saudi Arabia on Monday. It has already been eliminated from the competition having lost to Uruguay and Russia.
