Indian Super League side ATK has roped in Spanish attacking midfielder Javier 'Javi' Hernandez Gonzalez on Friday. Earlier this week, the two-time ISL champion announced that midfielder Manuel Lanzarote had left the club.

Hernandez came through the youth setup of Real Madrid and made international appearances for Spain's U-19 team. He went on to play for Real Madrid's reserve team in the Spanish third division.

The 30-year-old has played in Azerbaijan, Sweden and his native country Spain. Javi had represented Azerbaijan club Gabala in the second round of UEFA Europa League Qualifiers in 2017. He has joined ATK from top Polish league side KS Cracovia.

This will be Hernandez's second stint in India having played for I-League side East Bengal.

ATK head coach Antonio Lopez Habas said, “I am delighted with the signing of Javi Hernández. He adds balance and versatility to the team. He is experienced and has played in different conditions, which will be a big advantage for ATK.”

Speaking on his move to the Kolkata-based side, Hernandez said, “ATK is a two-time champion, my goal is to make sure the Cup returns to us again. I will do my best to make the team win and looking forward have a good season with the squad.”
