Sheringham: Eugeneson Lyngdoh out for a 'little while'

ATK manager Teddy Sheringham confirmed reports that his key midfielder Eugeneson Lyngdoh will be out of action for some time due to a knee injury.

Lyngdoh, who was seen wearing a heavy bandage around his knee in ATK’s last match away at Jamshedpur, was replaced before the end of the first-half. Lyngdoh was signed by ATK for a price of Rs. 1.1 crore during the players' draft in August.

“He (Lyngdoh) has got a bad knee. We have had it scanned. I am not sure of the diagnosis at the moment. He will be out for a little while. It's quite a bad one. We are hoping for good news once the specialists have read it and we will also get a second opinion on it,” Sheringham said in a pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s meeting with Chennaiyin FC.

The former Manchester United forward was scathing in his assessment of the rash tackles witnessed during the ongoing season of the Indian Super League and also called for better quality in pitches, unlike the one in Jamshedpur where his side drew 0-0.

“There have been some horrendous challenges in all the games, not just against us. There have been some horrendous challenges that have gone unpunished. I am very surprised there haven’t been more injuries. And if they keep going unpunished there is going to be more injuries. The referees have to be more on the ball about what is happening,” said the Englishman.

“Not just that. The pitch last week in Jamshedpur, some of the passes which were played along the floor bounced knee high. That makes it a lot hard to put on a show for the paying public.”
