Egypt star Mohamed Salah's availability for their World Cup opener against Uruguay is "uncertain" despite joining his team's training session Saturday.

Salah, 25, is still recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in Liverpool's Champions League final loss to Real Madrid last month.

The superstar forward – who scored 44 goals for his club in 2017-18 – joined his international team-mates in training, but was largely restricted to being a spectator.

Egypt team doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela said there were still no guarantees Salah would play a part against Uruguay in their Group A opener Friday.

"Everything looks good. His condition is comfortable, but playing against Uruguay is uncertain," he said.

"We'll take our decision after two days as everything will be clear.

"Our goal is to keep him safe and he will play if he's 100 per cent fit."

After facing Uruguay, Egypt meet Russia (June 19) and Saudi Arabia (June 25).
