"Obviously, I want to win titles. I come here to fight for all the competitions. We have many competitions ahead – we’re going to fight for it and try to get them.

"I'm looking forward to playing my first game at Anfield and to win as many games as we can."

Bruno Fernandes? It's a question for Sporting's board

Sporting CP head coach Marcel Keizer said Bruno Fernandes' future is a question for the club's board amid ongoing links to Manchester United. Fernandes has been tipped to join United throughout the transfer window and talk of a switch to Old Trafford has gathered pace with the Premier League season on the horizon.

Sunday's Portuguese Super Cup – which Sporting lost 5-0 at the hands of rival Benfica – was widely seen as a potential Fernandes farewell before leaving Lisbon.

Portugal international Fernandes was a topic of conversation post-match and Keizer told reporters: "Bruno Fernandes is an important player. "Will he stay? It's not a question for me, but for the management."

Fernandes scored 20 goals – 31 in all competitions – and supplied 13 assists in the Primeira Liga last season as Sporting finished third.

Conte still hopes for Lukaku deal as Man United reportedly end Dybala talks

Inter boss Antonio Conte is holding out hope of a deal for Romelu Lukaku after Manchester United reportedly ended talks over a possible swap deal with Juventus involving Paulo Dybala.

Lukaku has long been believed to be Conte's top transfer target but the Nerazzurri have been unable to match United's asking price, despite making what CEO Giuseppe Marotta described as a fair offer.

It seemed a move to Juventus was looking more likely as the Serie A champion discussed a deal that would also see Dybala move to Old Trafford.

However, widespread reports on Sunday said United have ended interest in the Argentina international due to his wage demands, the agent fees involved and concerns that he does not particularly want to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Inter boss Antonio Conte is holding out hope of a deal for Romelu Lukaku after Manchester United reportedly ended talks over a possible swap deal with Juventus involving Paulo Dybala.

The news has seemingly reignited the prospect of Lukaku becoming an Inter player before the transfer window closes and Conte appears hopeful the deal could happen.

"Lukaku is a good player, a striker I tried to buy when I was the coach at Chelsea. We're talking about two big clubs in Juventus and Inter, but I honestly don't know how it will end," said Conte.

Lukaku is still expected to leave United before the end of the Premier League's transfer window at 1700 local time on Thursday, even if it cannot sign a replacement.

Speculation on Sunday suggested Mario Mandzukic had agreed terms with the Red Devils, but it is not known how the end to the Dybala talks could affect any such deal. Solskjaer is said to have been hugely impressed with the pre-season efforts of 17-year-old forward Mason Greenwood, meaning he is not desperate to sign a direct replacement should Lukaku leave.

Mignolet's Liverpool career over as goalkeeper joins Club Brugge

Club Brugge has confirmed the signing of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for a reported €7million. Mignolet, 31, has agreed to a five-year deal with the Belgian club, ending a six-season stay at Anfield. The 21-time Belgium international returns to his homeland for the first time since joining Sunderland from boyhood club Sint-Truiden in 2010.

"After completing successful medical tests, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet signs a contract for five years with Blauw-Zwart. Liverpool FC, Club Brugge and Simon reached an agreement on this today," a statement from Club Brugge read.

Mignolet joined Liverpool for a reported £9m in June 2013, but lost his place last season after the arrival of Alisson from Roma. While part of the Champions League-winning squad last season, Mignolet made just two appearances in all competitions in 2018-19, his move ending a Liverpool career riddled by mistakes.

Manchester United pulls plug on Dybala-Lukaku swap deal

A Telegraph report claims that Manchester United has decided to pull the plug on the highly anticipated swap between Romelu Lukaku and Juventus' Paulo Dybala.

United has expressed concerns over his desire to play for the club and has deemed his exorbitant wage demands excessive. Solskjaer is reportedly determined to bring in only players who're fully committed to being part of United's long-term project.

United had agreed personal terms with Mario Mandzukic who was also a part of the deal, but it remains to be seen what happens with the Croatian striker.

Dybala is reportedly happy staying at Serie A champion Juventus and playing in the Champions League. According to a Sky Sports report, the Argentinian was left 'sad and angry' due to the treatment by his club which was pushing for the Lukaku deal to go through.

Neymar to Barcelona 'ruled out at this time', says vice president Cardoner

A deal to bring Neymar back to Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain should be ruled out at this time, according to Jordi Cardoner, the vice president of the LaLiga champions.

Brazil star Neymar is keen to leave Paris just two years on from his world-record €222million move from Barca.

The Catalans are favourites to sign the 27-year-old and the latest reports have suggested they could try to strike a loan deal, including the option to buy, in order to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou without the need to offset the cost by selling several first-team players.

At the presentation of new signing Junior Firpo on Sunday, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu said more arrivals should not be discounted between now and the end of the Spanish transfer window on September 2.

However, Cardoner thinks any potential Neymar deal is impossible unless there are developments between the player and PSG.

"As of today, there's no Neymar case, as the president said, and it's complicated," he told TV3.

"We are passive actors. We know he's not happy in Paris and it's a situation that needs to be resolved in Paris.

"We haven't spoken to them. There is a lot of respect between the clubs and if there is a Neymar case one day, we'll talk.

"Today, at this time, it's ruled out."

Napoli has discussed Lukaku transfer, reveals De Laurentiis

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed he has discussed the possibility of signing Romelu Lukaku, but put talk of a bid being made down to a ploy to drive up the Manchester United striker's valuation.

The Belgium international appears to be on his way out of Old Trafford in the closing stages of the transfer window after losing his place to Marcus Rashford in the second half of last season.

Lukaku, not used in any of United's six pre-season friendlies, has previously talked up a "dream" move to Serie A and is wanted by Inter and Italian champion Juventus.

But Inter was unable to agree a fee for the 26-year-old and Juve's hopes of signing him reportedly depend on Paulo Dybala agreeing to head the opposite way as part of a player-plus-cash deal.

Napoli is the latest club to be linked with Lukaku, with reports coming out of Italy on Saturday suggesting it is willing to offer a cash sum plus striker Arkadiusz Milik.

De Laurentiis confirmed he has talked with Lukaku's agent, but Napoli has not tabled an offer for his services.

"You know why there are rumours about him? Because I am good friends with his agent, Federico Pastorello, who I often wake up at dawn for a chat," he told Sky Sport Italia .

"I asked him: 'Do you think Lukaku would suit Napoli? Is he going to Juventus or not?' We spoke in those terms, but then we know it’s in the interest of agents to make it seem as if we made an offer, as that raises the price tag for someone else. This is why I’d prefer it if the transfer market opened the day after the season ended and closed at the end of July."

Napoli has missed out on attacking target Nicolas Pepe, who left Lille for Arsenal earlier this week, but it is still in the running for James Rodriguez, Hirving Lozano and Mauro Icardi.

"Beyond James, Lozano and Icardi, we are also evaluating other names," De Laurentiis said. "In negotiations, when everyone knows there is a willingness to buy, they all try to get the best deal. We have to take the environmental factors into account, because signing a player means bringing his family over too.

"Naples is a beautiful city, but for someone who is accustomed to a very different lifestyle, it can be an overwhelming experience to come here. The fans don't realise that."

Bartomeu hints at more Barcelona signings after Junior Firpo deal

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says more signings are anticipated before the close of the La Liga transfer window as speculation over a bid for Neymar continues.

The Spanish champion secured the arrival of Junior Firpo from Real Betis on Sunday in a deal that could be worth €30 million.

Barca has spent upwards of €230 million on new players in 2019, with Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie de Jong, Neto and Emerson among those to arrive in the close season.

It is reportedly in negotiations for the season-long loan of Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar, who is pushing to leave the Ligue 1 champion just two years on from his world-record €222 million move from Barca.

Such a deal, that would likely include an option to buy in 2020, would help Barca balance its spending while negating the need to sell several first-team players before the window closes on September 2.

Bartomeu thinks more arrivals at Camp Nou are certainly possible in the coming weeks.

"We have a stronger squad, with more potential," he said. "There are still several weeks left for the market to close and we could have more incomings."

"We have an ambitious and incredible squad, led by the best player in the world and in history, Leo Messi."

Neymar watched on as PSG beat Rennes 2-1 in Shenzhen to win the Trophee des Champions for the seventh year in a row.

The Brazil international was dragged into medal celebrations by Marco Verratti and appeared in good spirits, despite PSG sporting director Leonardo confirming last month the player wants to leave.

There was then a moment of controversy when Kylian Mbappe, who scored PSG's first goal, appeared to push Neymar out of the way as the team celebrated with the trophy in front of photographers on the pitch.

Long kept waiting on West Ham move amid work permit problems

New York Red Bulls defender Aaron Long hopes the United Kingdom's "strange" work permit system will not deny him the chance to join West Ham.

Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly keen on signing the 26-year-old to bolster his options at centre-back.

Long started five times for the United States at the recent Gold Cup but has not yet satisfied the Football Association's requirements for endorsement of a work permit.

Premier League clubs must submit their applications before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

"As our biggest ally, it seems strange that a football player from the US can't automatically get a work visa to play in England," Long told Sky Sports .

"Every kid in the USA dreams of playing in the English Premier League. Not many players get the chance, so of course I would like to play there some day."

Multiple Ligue 1 clubs including Marseille have been linked to Long, the MLS Defender of the Year for 2018.

"I just signed a new contract, so the decision is up to my club and the other team," he said.

Man City youngster Nmecha joins Wolfsburg on loan

Wolfsburg has signed Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old was born in Hamburg and has represented both England and Germany at Under-21 level, featuring as part of Stefan Kuntz's squad when it finished as runner-up in this year's European Championship.

Nmecha made three senior appearances for City in 2017-18 – all as a substitute – before spending 2018-19 with Preston North End in the Championship. He only scored four times in 44 appearances for Preston but was on target twice for City during its pre-season tour of Asia last month.

"It had been my aim to play in the Bundesliga and in my home country for some time now," Nmecha told Wolfsburg's official website. "I’m particularly pleased that this move to VfL Wolfsburg has come off because everything is in place for me here to further my development at the highest level and to realise my full potential."

Wolfsburg finished sixth in the Bundesliga last season, meaning newly installed head coach Oliver Glasner will lead it in the Europa League this time around.

Brighton seals Webster signing for reported club-record £20 million

Brighton and Hove Albion has signed Adam Webster from Bristol City for a reported club-record £20 million fee.

Webster put pen to paper on a four-year contract in a move that could pave the way for Lewis Dunk to replace Manchester United-bound Harry Maguire at Leicester City.

The 24-year-old centre-back, who was playing for Portsmouth in League Two just three years ago, is looking forward to testing himself in the Premier League.

"It's been a bit of a drawn-out process, but I'm absolutely delighted to finally get it over the line. This move is a dream come true for me and my family, so I can't wait to get started," said Webster in a statement.

"After speaking with the manager [Graham Potter], my heart was set on coming here. I grew up nearby in Chichester, so to be closer to home is an added bonus for me.

"He [Potter] was in charge of a very good Swansea City side last season, which played a lot of football. That's something which will suit my game here, and I can't wait to work with him."

Potter added: "Adam is a player the club has been aware of for some time, and someone we came up against last season at Swansea City.

"He is a quality defender, comfortable on the ball, fits the profile of the type of player we want to bring to the club, and he was very keen to join us.

"He is still relatively young, but has good experience from the number of games he has played. Predominately a centre-half, he can also play at right-back, and he will bring additional competition alongside our existing defensive options."

Atletico Madrid may have excited many with its signings but Diego Simeone is not getting carried away

Diego Simeone insists his expensively assembled squad must perform the pitch to earn comparisons with former Atletico Madrid sides.

Atletico has undergone a significant transformation since finishing 11 points behind La Liga champion Barcelona last season.

Antoine Griezmann, Diego Godin, Filipe Luis, Lucas Hernandez and midfielder Rodri, Manchester City's new record signing, have all left the Wanda Metropolitano.

Among the replacements are Marcos Llorente, Kieran Trippier, Mario Hermoso and Joao Felix, who became the fourth most expensive signing in history when he arrived from Benfica for €126 million.

The level of investment, which has brought eight new additions in total, has prompted conjecture about whether the squad could be the strongest assembled under Simeone.

"It's not fair to talk about a team that is yet to start competing," Simeone said. "We think about now, which is to improve in training, in matches, for each player to fulfil his function.

"When the season ends we will be able to say if this is the best squad or not. You don't win with names. You win with performance and with players who interpret what the team needs."

Another close-season signing, Hector Herrera, is back in his homeland of Mexico for Saturday's friendly against Atletico San Luis.

The former Porto midfielder is "very excited" by the occasion but the thought of a league debut against Getafe on August 18 is providing the real motivation.

"I never imagined playing in La Liga," Herrera said. "It was always a dream to be able to reach LaLiga, which is the best league in the world. You have to look for big challenges and [in La Liga] you are competing with the best."

Burnley brings in Peacock-Farrell following Heaton departure

Burnley has moved quickly to bring in Tom Heaton's replacement, signing Bailey Peacock-Farrell from Leeds United for an undisclosed fee. England international Heaton ended his six-year stay at Turf Moor on Thursday, joining newly promoted Aston Villa.

Nick Pope – who missed much of last season through injury and then struggled to establish himself in the side ahead of Heaton and Joe Hart – is tipped to be Burnley's first-choice goalkeeper for the new season.

But extra competition will come from Peacock-Farrell, who has signed a four-year deal with an option for a further season.

The 22-year-old Northern Ireland international made his debut for Leeds in April 2016, but he did not establish himself as a regular at Elland Road until the second half of the 2017-18 campaign.

Peacock-Farrell was first choice for much of Marcelo Bielsa's first campaign in charge of the Championship club, though lost his place after Leeds signed Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid in January.

"I'm really happy to be here. A Premier League club is what you dream of when you are starting out in football," Peacock-Farrell told Burnley's official website.

"There's massive competition here, but it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down. The goalkeepers here are really good and two of them are England internationals. There's something going on here that must be right."

Doubts remain over Hart's future at Turf Moor, as the former Manchester City and England star featured Burnley's first 19 league games last term but failed to make a single appearance after a 5-1 defeat to Everton on Boxing Day.

Everton brings in Mainz midfielder Gbamin following Gueye departure

Everton has confirmed the signing of Jean-Philippe Gbamin from Bundesliga club Mainz for an undisclosed fee reported to be £25million.

Idrissa Gueye's transfer to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday left a void in Everton's midfield, with boss Marco Silva having previously confirmed the club would need a replacement lined up if the Senegal international were to leave.

"It's a big moment with a lot of emotion and now it’s on me to prove on the pitch why they bought me," Gbamin told Everton's website.

"I'm excited because Everton is a great club here in England with a big history and ambition so I didn't think for more than a moment - I wanted to come here."

Gbamin, who joined Mainz from Lens in 2016, made 31 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, scoring twice.

The Ivory Coast international is also capable of playing at right-back and centre-back, and becomes Everton's fourth signing of the close season after Jonas Lossl, Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph.

Everton looks set to make a fifth addition in the coming days, with Juventus striker Moise Kean reportedly due to undergo a medical on Saturday ahead of a proposed £29million move from the Serie A champion.

Newcastle United completes the signings of Saint-Maximin and Willems

Newcastle United has completed its second and third signing of the transfer window, bringing in Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin in a six-year deal believed to be worth £16million and confirming the arrival of Netherlands international Jetro Willems on loan from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

The ex-Monaco winger scored six Ligue 1 goals in 34 appearances for Nice last term, and will wear the number 10 shirt for Newcastle.

"I'm delighted to bring Allan to St. James' Park. He is a very talented young player with a big future ahead of him," head coach Steve Bruce told Newcastle's official website.

"He has all the attributes you would want in an attacking player, including lightning pace, so I'm sure he'll excite everybody. He is a great addition to Newcastle United and the Premier League."

Willems has joined Newcastle on a season-long loan deal, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

The defender predominantly made his name at PSV and became the youngest player to appear in the European Championships when he featured for the Netherlands at Euro 2012.

"Jetro brings a wealth of experience into the dressing room and I'm very pleased to have brought him here," Bruce added.

"He has played at the highest level and is naturally left-footed so he'll give us another strong option on that side."

Cavani: Neymar has a lot to give for Paris Saint-Germain

Edinson Cavani believes Neymar still has a lot to give to Paris Saint-Germain and says the Brazil star will be able to learn from his ongoing transfer saga.

Neymar continues to be linked with a move away from PSG and is reportedly angling for an exit from the Ligue 1 champion.

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old - amid speculation of a return to Barcelona - is now back in training, after initially failing to return from his post-season break on the date PSG expected and Cavani is hopeful his fellow forward will remain at Parc des Princes.

"I hope that everything that has happened to him will give him the experience to grow as an individual," Cavani told Le Parisien . "I think he still has a lot to give PSG until the last day he will be here as a player, and a lot to give to football too.

"Playing with big players like him, like Kylian [Mbappe], it gives me pleasure, now it's good to find the connection between all of us, to create a good team, a good atmosphere of work, sacrifice and professionalism."

Cavani and Neymar seemed to get their relationship at PSG off to a difficult start following the Brazilian's move from Barca in 2017.

The Uruguay striker demanded to take a spot-kick instead of Neymar in a match against Lyon in September 2017, only to see his resultant effort saved, leading to much speculation that the duo did not get along. But despite confirming he and Neymar did not see eye-to-eye early on, Cavani insists there are no longer any issues.

"A lot of things have been said about us, it's true that we had some differences in the first few months after his arrival, but it's good to come and talk to each other," Cavani added. "The social networks, the external communication. It is exaggerated, many things are not true."

Emre Mor looks to reignite career with Galatasaray loan

Emre Mor will look to reignite his career at Galatasaray after the winger secured a loan away from Celta Vigo.

Mor, 22, was regarded as one of Europe's most promising youngsters when he joined Borussia Dortmund from Danish club Nordsjaelland in 2016. He showed flashes of ability during his 12 Bundesliga appearances before Celta forked out a reported €13.5 million on him in August 2017.

But he made just eight La Liga starts across two years in Spain and his stock has fallen dramatically.

The Denmark-born Turkey international will move to Galatasaray on loan for the 2019-20 season, with the Super Lig club securing a purchase option as part of the deal.

West Ham lets Oxford depart for Augsburg on permanent deal

West Ham has allowed young defender Reece Oxford to leave for Bundesliga side Augsburg on a permanent deal.

Oxford, 20, became the youngest ever player to feature for West Ham in 2015, when Slaven Bilic handed him his first-team debut in a Europa League qualifier aged 16 years and 198 days.

The centre-back had been considered a major prospect for the Hammers and England at the time, making seven Premier League appearances in the 2015-16 campaign and reportedly snubbing Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City to sign a new deal.

However, he subsequently struggled to hold down a spot in the first-team squad and was underwhelming during loan spells with Reading and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Oxford made eight Bundesliga appearances for Augsburg last season after joining in January, helping it narrowly avoid relegation.

Although a permanent move reportedly fell through initially due to disagreements over a relegation release clause, talks resumed and have been concluded with Oxford signing a four-year deal.

Juventus target Lukaku out of Man United squad for Milan clash

Romelu Lukaku has again been left out of Manchester United's squad to face AC Milan in a pre-season friendly, with his move to Juventus reportedly edging closer.

Belgium international Lukaku is yet to feature for United during the close season, with the official line from the club claiming fitness problems as the reason. But strong links with Italian side Inter coincided with his absences initially, as it looked to replace Mauro Icardi.

Inter confirmed its interest in Lukaku and that it has bid for him, though club CEO Giuseppe Marotta revealed its "fair and important" offer was rejected.

Sane contract talks regress amid Bayern rumours

Manchester City's attempts to extend Leroy Sane's contract have run in to trouble amid persistent speculation the player will join Bayern Munich in a mega-money move.

Sane has been linked with a switch to Bayern throughout the close season with the Bundesliga champion taking the unusual step of explicitly rejecting reports by Kicker and Bild on Thursday that the Germany winger was close to joining it.

That followed a climbdown in some public courting of the 23-year-old, who Bayern head coach Niko Kovac described as a "dream signing" his club was "working very hard" to secure.

Chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic expressed disappointment with those words and no questions regarding the matter were permitted at Kovac's news conference ahead of Saturday's DFL-Supercup meeting with Borussia Dortmund.

Sane was also predictably on the agenda at Pep Guardiola's briefing to preview Sunday's Community Shield clash with Liverpool at Wembley and the City manager said moves to keep the ex-Schalke man at the Etihad Stadium beyond June 2021 had taken a backwards step.

"I said many times I want players that want to stay. It is impossible for me as a manager to convince a player whose head is away from here," Guardiola said.

"But the player [Sane] didn't tell me anything. If they go to the door and tell me I want to leave then I say okay. Nobody tells me that so that is why he is our player.

"We want him to stay, we try to extend the contract for more than one year. We were quite close some months ago and now it is a little bit different. That is the reality I cannot say anything more."

Asked further about Sane's contract situation, Guardiola said City's director of football Txiki Begiristain had reported a setback over recent weeks.

"What I said two or three weeks ago, in relation with Txiki, was 'Wow, it is quite close'. Now, it is not," he explained.

Following Bayern's recent moves to seemingly keep relations between itself and City cordial, Guardiola insisted he harboured no ill will towards his former employer.

"No I am not disappointed," he added. "First because I know them and I know how it works in this world, everybody talks.

"Sometimes I talk too much. I'm pretty sure they don't do it most of the time. It is important we have our player. Leroy is here and we try to be ready to play the season."

Zenit agrees deal for Barcelona's Malcom

Malcom's move from Barcelona to Russian Premier League side Zenit has been completed, with the deal worth a total of €45 million.

The 22-year-old missed training on Thursday, with Barca announcing Malcom had been granted permission to "resolve his future".

Malcom joined La Liga giant Barca from Bordeaux in 2018 for a deal rising to €42 million, after making a late decision to head to Camp Nou rather than Roma in Serie A.

However, he failed to find his feet in Spain, making only six starts in La Liga, with the highlight of his time at Camp Nou coming when he scored in a 1-1 Clasico draw against Real Madrid.

In total, Malcom scored four goals in 24 appearances in all competitions, with Barca confirming it has "retained an interest in the future sale of the Brazilian."

"Barcelona expressly thanks Malcom for his commitment and dedication, and wishes him success in the future," a statement on Barca's website read.

Malcom came through the ranks at Corinthians before switching to Bordeaux in 2015. A breakthrough season came in 2016/17, with the winger scoring seven Ligue 1 goals, and he maintained his form heading into the following campaign, in which he netted 12 times.

His impressive form saw him come to the attention of Roma only for Barca to hijack his move to the Italian capital. But with Barca having spent big on Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann, Malcom has now been deemed surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.

Zenit leads the way in Russia's top flight with three wins from three so far this season, and Malcom could be in line to make his debut against Krasnodar on Saturday.

McBurnie signs for Sheffield United in club-record deal

Sheffield United has completed the signing of striker Oli McBurnie from Swansea City in a club-record deal believed to be worth £20 million. McBurnie starred for Swansea in the Championship last term, scoring 22 goals in the second tier.

The 23-year-old, who previously made 16 top-flight appearances while at Swansea without scoring, has now become United's eighth signing of the close season, signing a four-year contract as the Blades continue to strengthen ahead of their first season in the Premier League since 2006-07.

Blades boss Chris Wilder was delighted to have secured one of the club's long-term targets. "We've had to be patient and work very hard to get Oli to Bramall Lane but I am confident he will be a tremendous success," he told United's official website.

"We need options at the top of the pitch and Oli, as anyone who has watched a significant amount of Championship football will tell you, offers plenty in that area.

"He fits the profile of our transfer policy this season and is an age where his better years are ahead of him - hopefully he and the club can continue to grow together.

"I'm delighted with the transfer business over the summer, Oli is a big piece of the jigsaw, and the squad is shaping up ready for what will be a long and demanding season."

United rounds off its pre-season preparations away at Reims on Saturday, before kicking off their Premier League campaign against Bournemouth on August 10.

Bayern new signing Singh for first-team role

New signing Sarpreet Singh could be a surprise starter for Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup after catching Niko Kovac's eye in pre-season.

Serge Gnabry will miss Saturday's match against Borussia Dortmund because of a muscle issue, leaving a place free on the flank opposite to Kingsley Coman.

Thomas Muller and Alphonso Davies are among the alternatives but New Zealand international Singh, a midfielder by trade, is in contention to continue his rapid rise.

The 20-year-old joined from A-League outfit Wellington Phoenix a month ago and appeared comfortable in friendly appearances against Real Madrid, Arsenal and AC Milan.

"He's a good catch," Kovac said. "He was planned for the second team but he's shown that he's already a long way ahead of many others. I'm very pleased for him and pleasantly surprised. With him and Alphonso Davies, you can see they are much further ahead of the others in the second team."

Singh's road to first-team minutes will become tougher if Bayern succeeds in its attempts to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City.

Where the winger will play next season has become a source of angst for both clubs, with Kovac compelled to apologise to opposite number Pep Guardiola after publicly confirming his interest in the 23-year-old.

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge rebuked Kovac over the comments and the Croatian took no questions on the subject at his news conference on Friday.

"Everything has been said," he explained. "Now is the present. We have an important match tomorrow and it's all about that. Dortmund have strengthened, they have been in training longer than us.

"It will be an intense game. Dortmund will be our biggest challenger. We need to be red alert tomorrow."

Mbappe: Neymar knows I want him to stay at PSG

Kylian Mbappe voiced his hope for Neymar to stay at Paris Saint-Germain as Thomas Tuchel commended the star forward's upbeat attitude in China.

Neymar returned to full training on Thursday just as a fresh wave of speculation emerged concerning his commitment to the club.

The 27-year-old has not featured in pre-season, having undergone a careful recovery from foot and ankle issues, and will sit out this weekend's Trophee des Champions match due to suspension.

His absence did nothing to halt the rumour mill as reports regarding a possible return to Barcelona gained in number during the Brazilian's close-season break in his homeland.

France forward Mbappe held private talks with his team-mate amid the maelstrom and hopes his encouragement results in a third season for Neymar at Parc des Princes.

"He has a situation that everyone knows," Mbappe said in Shenzhen, where PSG is preparing to face Rennes. "Of course I want him to stay. I spoke with him. He knows what I think of him and his situation. Everything is going well between us. We have a relationship based on honesty and respect. He knows that I respect him and that I admire him."

PSG boss Tuchel added fuel to the transfer talk that has dominated his team's pre-season when he admitted to knowing - before the Copa America - about Neymar's desire to depart Paris.

Yet that objective has done nothing to curb the former Barca player's enthusiasm on a day to day basis, according to Tuchel.

"Neymar's training session was great, as good usual," the Germain said. "He's at a top level. The mood is very good on his part. He's with us and that's good."

Hertha seals reported club-record deal for Lukebakio

Hertha Berlin has announced the signing of forward Dodi Lukebakio from Watford in a reported club-record deal.

Lukebakio is said to have cost the Bundesliga side €20 million (£18.3 million), surpassing the fee of €8.5 million spent on Davie Selke two years ago.

The Belgium Under-21 star, capable of playing anywhere across the front line, returns to Germany on a "long-term" contract after impressing on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf last season.

Upon joining Hertha, Lukebakio said: "Hertha are a big club in Germany and showed a lot of interest in me. I knew very quickly that I wanted to join the club. I want to play a lot of football here and score loads of goals."

Lukebakio played just 15 minutes for Watford after joining from Anderlecht in January 2018, but his form with Fortuna attracted interest this close season.

The 21-year-old scored 14 goals in all competitions last term, including a hat-trick against champions Bayern Munich to snatch a dramatic 3-3 draw.

Arsenal seals £72 million deal for Lille's Pepe

Arsenal has announced the signing of Lille forward Nicolas Pepe in a club-record deal reported to be worth £72 million.

Pepe was linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Champions League winner Liverpool after a breakthrough 2018-19 season.

The Ivory Coast attacker scored 22 Ligue 1 goals last term and supplied 11 assists to catch the eye of Europe's elite clubs. But it is Arsenal who have landed the 24-year-old, who eclipses Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the club's record signing.

"Nicolas is a highly-rated and talented winger who was wanted by many of the top teams in Europe," Gunners head coach Unai Emery told his club's official website.

"Signing a top-class winger has been one of our key objectives in this transfer window and I'm delighted he's joining. He will add pace, power and creativity, with the aim of bringing more goals to our team."

Neymar takes part in PSG training amid ongoing Barcelona speculation

Neymar took part in training with Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday, despite fresh speculation that he is refusing to play for the club.

Reports in Spain suggest Neymar has informed PSG he will not play any more matches in an attempt to force through a move to former side Barcelona.

The Brazil forward has been strongly linked with a return to Catalonia just two years on from swapping clubs for a world-record €222 million fee.

He returned late for pre-season training with PSG and has yet to take part in any of its friendlies due to foot and ankle injury complaints.

The 27-year-old is also suspended for Saturday's Trophee des Champions clash with Rennes following his altercation with a fan after PSG's Coupe de France final defeat to the same opposition in April.

But Neymar was all smiles as he took part in training with his team-mates in China today and could be in contention for PSG's Ligue 1 opener with Nimes a week on Sunday.

PSG beat Sydney FC 3-0 in the last of their pre-season friendlies to make it two wins from four matches during the close season.

AC Milan lands forward Leao from Lille

AC Milan has finalised the signing of forward Rafael Leao from Lille in a deal reportedly worth €30 million. Leao, 20, has agreed a five-year contract to become Marco Giampaolo's third signing for the Rossoneri.

The Serie A giant finalised the capture of Portugal Under-21 international Leao following Patrick Cutrone's move to Wolves on Tuesday.

Leao scored eight Ligue 1 goals for Lille last season after progressing through the youth system at Sporting CP.

A starting XI place appears up for grabs in Giampaolo's preferred 4-3-1-2 system, with Krzysztof Piatek and the seemingly unwanted Andre Silva the only other recognised strikers in the squad.

His departure from Lille comes as the French club brace for Nicolas Pepe's impending exit to Arsenal, although they added Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen from Sporting Charleroi on Thursday.

Brazilian centre-back Duarte, meanwhile, is said to be on the cusp of completing an €11 million transfer to Milan. Reports in Italy indicate the 23-year-old will join Leao in signing a five-year deal.

An announcement of Flamengo defender Leo Duarte as the fourth new addition at San Siro is also expected soon.

Chelsea midfielder Palmer joins Bristol City on permanent deal

Bristol City has re-signed midfielder Kasey Palmer from Chelsea on a permanent deal. The 22-year-old featured 17 times for the Championship side in a loan stint during the second half of last season.

Palmer has agreed a four-year contract at Ashton Gate for an undisclosed fee and becomes the third player to make the switch from Chelsea during the close season, following in the steps of Jay Dasilva and Tomas Kalas.

"I’m buzzing to be back on a long-term deal," Palmer, who did not make a single senior appearance for Chelsea, told his new club's official website.

"Hopefully my family and I will settle and then I can start to kick on with my football. The stability side of things will be important. It is so much better knowing this is my home over the next four years, instead of one year and then going back to Chelsea, so it’s a good platform and we can build on it.

"In the next four years I want to develop myself as much as I can under the management of Lee Johnson. I want more goals, assists and to try and get my stats as good as possible. Also, in that time the club can hopefully get promoted to the Premier League, which is where it deserves to be."

Chelsea also confirmed on Thursday that 19-year-old wing-back Dujon Sterling has joined Bristol City's second-tier counterparts Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan.

Sterling is a two-time FA Youth Cup winner with Chelsea and boasts first-team experience from his spell at Coventry City last season.

Lille signs Osimhen as Pepe nears exit

Lille has completed the signing of Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen on a five-year contract from Sporting Charleroi.

The 20-year-old looks set to fill the void left by Nicolas Pepe, who Lille president Gerard Lopez confirmed is poised to join Arsenal in an €80 million move.

The 20-year-old did not score a goal for Wolfsburg after starting his professional career with the Bundesliga club. However, he netted 20 times on loan at Charleroi last season, who activated their option to sign him permanently in May.

But he will now continue his career in Ligue 1 and have a tough challenge to match the contribution of Pepe, who scored 23 goals in all competitions as Lille finished second behind Paris Saint-Germain last term.

"Lille is a very good club that leads a quality project and includes high class players, even more in recent years. Great Nigerian players have also played here. I would like to join their lineage and follow their footsteps," Osimhen told the club's website.

"I am very happy to be here and to join this great club. I am still young, I am learning and I think that this project suits me perfectly to continue to progress."

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of midfielder Marvelous Nakamba from Club Brugge for a reported fee of £11million.

The 25-year-old joins on the same day as goalkeeper Tom Heaton, who has moved from Burnley.

Nakamba is Villa's 12th arrival since their return to the Premier League and takes their close-season spending to roughly £134m.

"Marvelous fits the criteria of the type of player we were looking for," Villa head coach Dean Smith told the club's website.

"He's very mobile, he's very good in possession and he will fit in with our style of play."

Bournemouth has completed the signing of Arnaut Danjuma from Club Brugge on a long-term contract. The 22-year-old Netherlands international moves to the Premier League for a reported fee of £13.7million.

He is the Cherries' fourth signing of the close season, following Lloyd Kelly, Jack Stacey and Philip Billing to the Vitality Stadium.

"Coming to Bournemouth is a really good step up for me," Danjuma told afcbTV . "The Premier League is a great place to play your football, especially at a club like this."

"I'm excited to be here. The last 24 hours have been a bit crazy but I'm delighted to be at the club and I've only heard positive things about it.

"I think the way the team plays suits my style, I like to attack and I cannot wait to get started," he added.

TOP STORY – DYBALA HAS UNITED DOUBTS AS INTER CIRCLE

According to multiple reports in Italy, Juventus attacker Dybala has no intention of joining Manchester United in a swap deal involving Lukaku.

Inter had been favourites to sign Lukaku, however, Serie A champions Juve have emerged as frontrunners to prise the Belgium striker at the expense of Dybala.

United and Juve have reportedly agreed on an exchange but Calciomercato, Rai Sport and Tuttomercatoweb claim Dybala is not convinced about a move to Old Trafford due to a lack of Champions League and his style of football in the Premier League.

Dybala – who is apparently demanding a higher salary than Paul Pogba and is set to meet Juve head coach Maurizio Sarri – could end up at Inter, with Corriere dello Sport's front page dominated by a shock move.

- Pepe to Arsenal 'not closed', says Emery -

Unai Emery says Arsenal's deal for Lille forward Nicolas Pepe is "not closed". Lille president Gerard Lopez told RMC Sport on Wednesday that Pepe's move to Arsenal for £72.8million (€80m) would soon be completed.

That fee would break Arsenal's transfer record but Emery is cautious over the Ivory Coast international's future, although he suggested Pepe may not be the last new arrival.

"He played here in Angers a few years ago, and then in Lille. He has progressed as a player," Emery told reporters after a pre-season friendly against the Ligue 1 side.

"We are speaking about a lot of players, we want to select on players who can really help us, give us big performances and improve our squad. We have different options. This one at the moment is not closed, but he is one we are following.

"We are working on the possibilities to sign players. We signed [Dani] Ceballos, and we have a possibility with Pepe. We are looking for the possibility to improve, but only if we can take more steps in the squad.

"Our target is to sign another player if he can really, really improve us. Our target is continuing to sign another player if we can."
