Fowler withdraws from second straight FedEx Cup playoff event

Fowler has been suffering from an oblique injury, which also kept him out of The Northern Trust last week.

Rickie Fowler will miss a second consecutive FedEx Cup Playoffs event as he continues to recover from an oblique injury ahead of next month's Ryder Cup.

Fowler has withdrawn from this weekend's Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston, an event he won in 2015.

The world number eight fell from 17th to 22nd in the FedEx Cup standings after sitting out The Northern Trust. The top 30 players make the year-end Tour Championship at East Lake.

The Ryder Cup will be played a week later in Paris, and Fowler is focused as much on being healthy for that event as he is making a strong showing on the remaining Tour schedule.
