The Delhi Waveriders named seasoned India defender Rupinderpal Singh as its captain on Thursday for the fifth edition of the Hockey India eague (HIL) starting on Saturday.

With Cedric D'Souza continuing to helm the team Rupinder, who was named Player of the Tournament in the previous edition, replaced New Zealand striker Simon Child as the leader of the team. Child has been named vice-captain this time around.

Buoyed by the presence of junior team captain Harjeet Singh and the 19-year old Mandeep Singh, DWR has included some new faces including Argentine Manuel Brunet, part of the Rio Olympics gold-winning side, Belgian goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch and former South Africa captain Austin Smith.
