MCC awards lifetime membership to Miandad

The home of English cricket has granted lifetime membership to Javed Miandad, coach of the Pakistan national team and former Test captain.

Miandad said he had received a letter of confirmation from Marylebone Cricket Club secretary Roger Knight.

"It's a great honour for me as most of the legends of the cricket game have been given the MCC membership,'' Miandad said during the first Test against Bangladesh at Karachi's National Stadium.

Miandad played 124 Test matches for Pakistan. He scored 8,832 runs with an average of 52.57.

He played in a record six World Cup championships before retiring from international cricket in 1996.

Other Pakistan players who received this honour: Hanif Mohammad, Fazal Mahmood, Wasim Raja, Iqbal Qasim, Nasim-ul-Ghani and Khan Mohammad.
