India makes winning start at youth world boxing championship

Poonam (57kg) and Vinka (60kg) advanced to the pre-quarter finals after notching up contrasting opening-round wins.

Vinka and Poonam have begun their campaign on a winning note in the World youth boxing championships in Kielce, Poland.

Vinka, an Asian youth champion in 2019 and a gold medallist in this year's Adriatic Pearl event, recorded a 3-2 win over Russian Panteleeva Daria in a women's 60kg bout.

Poonam trounced Columbia’s Arboleda Valeria 5-0 in a 57kg bout.

In the pre-quarterfinals on Thursday, Vinka and Poonam will take on Tara Bohatjuk of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Beata Varga of Hungary respectively.
