National selection trials: Meghana Sajjanar bags top honour

Meghana had topped qualification with 628.0, and shot 10.8 and 10.6 on the last two targets to pip Aayushi Gupta by 0.3 points.

Meghana Sajjanar shot 10.8 and 10.6 on the last two targets to pip Aayushi Gupta by 0.3 points for the top position in women’s air rifle at the shooting National selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Sunday.

More importantly, Meghana had topped qualification with 628.0, while Olympian Ayonika Paul finished third behind Gupta, after having qualified in the second place with 626.1.

Some of the leading shooters like Pooja Ghatkar, Elizabeth Susan Koshy, Shriyanka Sadangi, Vinita Bhardwaj failed to make the final.

In the men’s 50-metre rifle prone event, Sushil Ghaley topped ahead of Akhil Sheoran and Sanjeev Rajput.

In the standard pistol, the trio of Vijayveer Sidhu, Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu and Anhad Jawanda took the top three spots in that order, both in the men’s and junior events.

Junior women: 1. Heena Gohei 249.3 (623.9); 2. Nupur Patil 248.0 (620.7); 3. Prachi Chaudhary 225.0 (622.3).

Youth women: 1. Yana Rathore 249.7 (621.0); 2. Heena Jayesh 249.0 (623.9); 3. Ayushi Podder 227.4 (621.4).

25m standard pistol:

Men: 1. Vijayveer Sidhu 577; 2. Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu 574; 3. Anhad Jawanda 572.

Junior men: 1. Vijayveer Sidhu 577; 2. Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu 574; 3. Anhad Jawanda 572.

50m rifle prone:
