National Shooting Championship: Manu Bhaker wins gold medals

Devanshi Dhama bagged the silver in the senior 10m air pistol event while Yashaswini Singh Deshwal won the bronze medal.

Manu Bhaker won two gold medals in the women’s 10m air pistol senior and junior events.

Manu Bhaker was in irrepressible form as she won the women’s and junior gold medals in air pistol with a rare touch of assurance, after scoring a high 588 in qualificaiton, in the 63rd National shooting championship on Tuesday.

Manu beat Devanshi Dhama by 5.2 points for the women’s gold, while the other Olympic quota winner Yashaswini Singh Deswal took the bronze.

Shweta Singh, Annu Raj Singh, Harveen Srao, Ruchita Vinerkar and Rahi Sarnobat were the others to make the women’s final.

Esha Singh, who had won the women’s, junior and youth gold medals in the last edition in Thirduvananthapuram at 13, was not at her best and shot 563, which placed her in 43rd spot in the women’s event, and did not fetch her a berth in any of the finals.

In the junior section, Manu beat Sharvari Bhoir 2.1 point for the gold, while Devanshi Dhama won the bronze.

In the 25-metre rapid fire pistol, Anish Bhanwala won both the men’s and junior gold medals after having topped qualification with 582.
