National Shotgun C’ship: Angad Vir Singh Bajwa wins men’s skeet gold

Twenty-three year old Angad Vir Singh Bajwa beat Olympian and World Cup silver medallist Mairaj Ahmad Khan 8-7 in the shoot-off after the two were tied on 55, in the men’s skeet final at the 62nd National shotgun championship held at the JDA Range on Friday.

Angad, who had shot a world record 60 out of 60 in the final in winning the Asian Championship gold earlier this season in Kuwait, was able to show his class yet again, after a modest qualification score of 119.

No surprise

Thus, it was no surprise that he pipped the seasoned Mairaj Ahmad Khan in the shoot-off, to earn the gold. Mairaj had qualified with the top score of 122, like Gurjoat Singh, who eventually finished sixth. Former National champion Amrinder Singh Cheema bagged the bronze; he pipped the former Asian champion Man Singh, who had shot 121 in qualification. Sheeraz Sheikh, who scored 120 in qualification, was fifth.

In the junior section, Gurnihal Singh Garcha won the gold; he beat Abhay Singh Sekhon 56-55 in the final. Karn Vikram Singh beat Indereshwar Singh Sekhon, Ayush Rudraraju and Anantjeet Singh Naruka to win the bronze medal.
