Sachin Tendulkar’s interest in music is well known. Perhaps this was inevitable considering he was named after the popular music director of yesteryear, Sachin Dev Burman. On Monday, he joined Ustad Zakir Hussain, the Padma Bhushan awardee tabla master, in a ‘jugalbandi’ that has enamoured his fans on the internet ever since it was shared by Tendulkar on his Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Tendulkar conjures up a rhythm on the slit drums and is joined on the tabla by the Ustad. Tendulkar keeps up with the collaboration for about 70 seconds, before bowing to the Ustad.

“It's an experience I’ll hold close to my heart,” wrote Tendulkar on Twitter. This post was re-tweeted 1,400 times.

Tendulkar has met with some of his favourite singers and musicians, including Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, Lata Mangeshkar, and A. R. Rahman, who met him for lunch at his residence in Mumbai last year.

Another of his favourite singer is the late Kishore Kumar. Tendulkar wrote this on Facebook last year: “Music has evolved over the years, but the one we have grown up listening to, hold a special place in our hearts. I think the 80s were the golden era for Hindi film music, with legendary stalwarts like Panchamda, Gulzar Saab, Kishoreda and the likes casting their spell...”
