The Indo-Canadian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov stormed into the pre-quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters after securing a comfortable straight sets win over the Russian duo of Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev here on Tuesday.
Bopanna and Shapovalov cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win in their first round in a tie that lasted all of 58 minutes. They broke the Russians in the first game and once again in the sixth to pocket the opening set in 24 minutes.
Khachanov and Rublev showed promise early in the second set by claiming a break in the second game, but they were of little match to the Indo-Canadian duo. Bopanna and Shapovalov broke in the ninth game and held serve the following game to set up a pre-quarterfinal date with winners of the tie between Borna Coric and Runhao Hua and Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo.
