Asian Athletics Championships 2019: PU Chitra wins 1500m gold, India finishes with 17 medals

10.44pm: So that was India's last event of the day and of the tournament. India finishes with 17 medals.

10.25pm: And it's another SILVER! Fine runs from Muhammad Anas and Rajiv Arokia propelled India into the second spot, ahead of China. Japan wins gold.

10.19pm: Up next is the men's 4x400m relay final. India will start on lane 6.

10.04pm: SILVER FOR INDIA! It looked like Vismaya was taking India to gold, but a final stretch dash from Salma Naser saw her coming from fourth to finish first. What a run from the Bahraini woman!

That's India's 17th medal and the seventh silver of the tournament.

10.02pm: India goes down to third after the 800m mark. The second exchange was slightly slow.

10.00pm: The 4x400m women's relay final is underway. After the first 400, India is in the lead!

9.45 pm: No medals for India in the men's 5000m final. Murli Kumar Tulsyabhai Gavit and Abhishek Pal finish fifth and sixth respectively.

8.58 pm: SILVER FOR AJAY KUMAR! BRILLIANT RUN FROM HIM! He was well behind the frontrunners at the final bend but he managed to find some strength right at the end to overtake three competitors and finish second.

8.55 pm: The men's 1500m final is up next. Ajay Kumar Saroj is the Indian taking part in the event.

8.43 pm:GOLD FOR PU CHITRA! With a timing of 4:14.56, she takes gold. Started slow but she turned on the burners in the final lap and took the first place at the final bend and held on to it till the end. Superb run from 23-year-old, who also clinched gold in the 2017 edition.

8.36 pm: The women's 1500m final has begun. Indians P.U. Chitra and Lili Das are in the middle of the pack at the start.

8.22 pm Confirmation on the women's discus throw finals results. Navjeet Kaur Dhillon finished fourth with a best throw of 57.47m and Kamalpreet Kaur finished fifth with a best throw of 55.59m.

8.17 pm: The Discuss Throw event might not add India's medal tally as Navjeet Kaur Dhillon fails to overtake the third placed competitor on her final throw. Awaiting official confirmation for the final positions.

8.15 pm: After five rounds, Kamal Preet Kaur and Navjeet Dhillon and fourth and fifth in the Discuss Throw finals.

8.02 pm:BRONZE FOR DUTEE! Salwa Naser takes gold while the silver goes to Olga Safronova. It's a season-best 23.24 seconds but is not enough to make the World Championships.

8 pm: The 200m women's final is happening now and DUTEE CHAND is a part of it. Can she add to India's medal tally?

7.38 pm: Discuss Throw event starts. Navjeet Dhillon and Kamal Preet Kaur have had their first throws, after which there's a break in play.

7.35 pm: As the Discuss Throw finalists warm up, the 100m Hurdles Women is taking place. There is no Indian participating in the event, though. Japan's Ayako Kimura takes gold. Compatriot Masumi Aoki takes bronze while China Jiamin Chen takes silver.

7.30 pm: Right, it's time! The athletes are warming up and we'll be up and running soon.

7.15 pm: The first event of the day with Indian interest is the Discuss Throw final. Kamal Preet Kaur and Navjeet Dhillon are the Indians in contention for medals.

Nanaka Kori, Subenrat Insaeng, Maki Saito, Bin Feng, Noora Jasim, Yang Chen and Zhaleh Kardan are the others taking part in the finals.

Swapna Barman and the 4x400m relay team bagged silvers on Tuesday as the Indian team took its medal tally to 13 at the end of the third day of the Asian Athletics Championships 2019. Sanjivani Jadhav was the third Indian medallist of the day as she clinched bronze in the women's 10,00m race.
