It was a disappointing day for India as all the athletes in action on day nine of the IAAF World Athletics Championships failed to progress.
The Indian women's 4x400m relay team, comprising Jisna Mathew, M.R. Poovamma, V.K. Vismaya and V. Subha, clocked a season-best 3:29.42s as it finished sixth (11 overall) in the semifinal and failed to qualify for the final. The finish was not wholly unexpected though since the team was running without the injured Hima Das, who had been in stunning form at last year's Asian Games.

The men's 4x400m relay team, consisting of Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Anas, K.S. Jeevan and Noah Nirmal Tom, too failed to make the cut as it finished seventh (13 overall) clocking 3:03.09s.
There was big disappointment in the men's javelin throw with Asian silver medallist Shivpal Singh, who has been very inconsistent this season, producing a day's best of 78.97m in the qualification round that saw him finish 10th in his group and 24 overall. Only the top 12 qualified for the final. Shivpal had produced a personal best of 86.23s earlier this year. Defending champion Johannes Vetter of Germany led the standings with a best throw of 89.35m.
