Nat'l Youth Athletics: Mohit breaks national decathlon record, Rahul and Josna are fastest

Haryana’s Mohit Kumar broke the under-18 national decathlon record while UP’s Rahul Sharma and Karnataka’s Josna Simov emerged as the fastest boy and girl in the 15th National youth athletics championships.

Haryana's Mohit Kumar tallied 6707 to break a two-year record in the under-18 boys' decathlon event.

Haryana’s Mohit Kumar broke the under-18 national decathlon record while UP’s Rahul Sharma and Karnataka’s Josna Simov emerged as the fastest boy and girl in the 15th National youth athletics championships at Vadodara, Gujarat, on Sunday.

With Andhra Pradesh’s Sourabh Rathi pushing him all the way, Mohit tallied 6707 in the ten-eventer, bettering the two-year-old record. Sourabh, the silver medallist, also bettered the record.

Rahul clocked 10.80s for the boys 100m gold but there was a big fight for the silver with Maharashtra’s Karan Hegiste taking it in a photo finish.

Meanwhile, Kerala’s national record holder Aparna Roy won the womens’ 100m hurdles while long jumper Sandra Babu was way behind her personal best of 6.07m but still comfortably won the girls long jump gold.
