TN may possess two teams for PBL

Coimbatore could be chosen as the second team from the south Indian State to participate in the league.

In addition to defending champion Chennai Smashers, the State could see another team participating in the Premier Badminton League (PBL) for the forthcoming edition tentatively scheduled from December 26 to January 18, 2018.

Speaking to Sportstar on the sidelines of the All-India junior ranking badminton tournament at Fireball Academy here on Thursday, Punnaiah Choudhary, Governing Council Member, PBL, said it has got proposals from four different cities. “We are planning to have eight teams this time unlike the earlier six. We are also contemplating having Coimbatore as one of the venues apart from Chennai,” Punnaiah said, while adding that the number of teams will be finalised by the end of August.

The PBL Governing Council members will meet on August 11 in Bangalore to decide the on the future course of action.
