AIBA Women's World C'ships: Manju Rani enters semifinals

The Indian pugilist defeats North Korea's Kim Hyang Mi to hand India its second medal in the competition.

Manju Rani handed India its second medal at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships, defeating North Korea's Kim Hyang Mi in the 48kg quarterfinals in Ulan Ude, Russia, on Thursday.

Manju, the sixth seed, overcame her top-seeded opponent by a 4-1 verdict. The bout was a fierce one, both boxers agile and aggressive.

Manju next faces Thailand's Chuthamat Raksat in the semifinals, on October 12.

 

After having received a bye in the first round, Manju beat Cedeno Rojas in her pre-quarterfinal bout on Wednesday.
