India's Kavita was defeated by Belarus's Kavaleva Katsiaryna on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Ulan Ude, Russia.
Kavaleva won by a 4:1 verdict. The bout was a scrappy one, the boxers frequently smothering each other while trying to be aggressive.
Kavaleva will face U.S.'s Danielle Perkins in the semifinals on Saturday. Perkins defeated Kristina Tkacheva of Russia.
Earlier, Mary Kom handed India its first medal in the competition with a quarterfinal win over Ingrit Valencia.
