Afghanistan players like Rashid Khan have always dreamt of playing against India.

Ever since it attained the Test status, the Afghanistan players dreamt of playing their first Test against India. And, that dream is set to come true as the Afghans will be making the Test debut against India. That's not all. On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary confirmed that the fixture will be played in India.

Earlier, there were talks that Afghanistan might play its first Test against Zimbabwe in Sharjah, but putting all speculations, the BCCI made it clear Afghanistan will fulfill its dream soon. The venue and date for the Test will be announced later.

“Afghans were scheduled to play their first Test in 2019 versus Australia but considering the historic relationship between India and Afghanistan, we decided to host their first Test,” said BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary after the Special General Meeting.

Besides welcoming them into five-day cricket, the BCCI has extended a helping hand to Afghanistan on a number of occasions. The team from the war-ravaged nation has hosted its home games in India, most recently the series against Ireland in Greater Noida.

Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi became the first two Afghanistan cricketers to be bought at the IPL auction earlier this year.
